Collinite ?'s

So, what is the deal with COllinite products? I here lots of great talk about them, but never have tried any. Are they better than counterparts like PB, CK< Pinnalce/ Some niche product? Lemme know what I'm missing.
 
Man, you got a LOT of searching to do!!! There have been a million threads on Collinite. Basically, their wax is bulletproof.
 
Have searched a lot, but figured I'd come right out and ask! Plus, most of the stuff I read is specific, not general.

Glaze? Wax? Looks?
 
They're known for 476s paste wax and 845 liquid wax. Both are extremely durable, although 476s moreso (according to people who have used it). Both can be difficult to remove, although most say 845 is easier. Looks are neutral, like a sealant, and most say that 845 looks slightly better. Basically, Collinite=Durability.

The durability like a sealer coudl come into play nicely when wanting to use a glaze, then say use a collinite, then lsp of Nat Blue or similar? Could be a neat little thing to try.
 
Some people have tried RMG under Collinite and say it has no detrimental effects, but I wouldn't do it. You'd have to email Collinite for confirmation, but I believe that Collinite has a strong polymer in it...there's no way it's just relying on natural (carnauba) waxes. So, I wouldn't layer it over a glaze unless that glaze is Chemical Guys EZ Creme Glaze (it's an acrylic polymer glaze, like Sonus Swirlbuster without the abrasives). IMO Collinite 845 will outlast just about any sealant on its own.
 
Enough people have been posting disappointment with 845 recently to make me wonder if the VOC-compliant reformulation has compromised the durability. I haven't done a side-by-side with the old version, but when I used (new version) 845 on the A8's rear bumper cover and wheels it didn't seem to bead/stay slick as long as I'd expected (I know, that's a lousy way to evaluate, but still...). I'm still sticking with my 476S recommendation, though I haven't tried the post-VOC version of *that* one either (as I have a case of the old stuff).



One thing that hasn't been mentioned in this thread yet is the beading. 476S beads like you can't imagine and is sorta self-cleaning in the rain (845 is impressive too, but less so). When you wax somebody's car with that stuff, they're really :eek: about the beading and figure they "really got a great wax job".



If you put the 476S on nice and thin it'll come off just fine. It *is* a pretty hard wax though, so it takes a *little* effort to get it on the applicator. 845 is simply *easy* to use, never had any problems with it at all but I do put my LSPs on thin.



I've topped 476S with Souveran (multiple coats, spit-shined) and saw an improvement...or at least I *think* I did ;)
 
845 is extremely easy to take off, don't know where people thought it was hard, maybe assuming it was as difficult as 476s?



As for durability, I've found it at least rivals #16, haven't decided to go longer than 2-3 months without waxing so don't know anything further than that.



I do know that like accumulator said above, my rear bumper does tend to kill waxes off faster than the rest of the car for some reason. UPP and Natty's never stood a chance on it, and #16 and 845 are just a little bit better.
 
I have used #915 the Marque d'Elegance and the #885 Fleetwax and #845 IW...but to me the 845 smelled very strong in the solvents..and worried me as to if the solvents would comprimise the sealant under while applying...so now 845 goe's to wheels..it is easy on easy off...it would make a great standalone LSP but may remove any glaze you apply over due to the solvents...





the 915 and 885 have worked great so far for winter protection and summer use..over sealants....and the 476s is top notch also..I have never seen a bad post on 476...or any collinite wax...one thing for sure..they do last...



also I would think the paste wax's from collinite would be better canidates for applying over glazes....

yes paste wax smell like solvents..at least some do...but when you compare a liquid and a paste wax...one that pours out and one you have to scoop out..which one do you think would have a higher solvent content...the solvents are there to keep the wax in a liquid state..then when applied to paint they flash leaving the carnauba content on paint...

Well, IMO the smell matters as much as it does....to *you*. If you don't care then it doesn't matter.



Since I don't take this stuff life-or-death seriously, I want the experience to be pleasant and the smell contributes to that. Fortunately for me I like the smell of Collinite stuff (and 1Z and some others that some people find noxious). I know I'm not the only person who appreciates that #16 smells like crayons ;)
 
My original post was not really about the smell..it was about the solvents in 845...would it comprimise any LSP with the solvents...I said it had a strong solvent smell since it was a liquid...would the solvents remove a glaze like RMG..I use alot of products that smell like solvents...so it was not the smell ..it is the amount of solvents..
