cnn's debate on auto v. maunal

Yeah, I love my manual, but when im stuck in traffic, especially when i'm on a hill, and someones riding my a$$ I wish I had an automatic.

put it this way, do you want to control the car, or do you want a damn computer to? Thats the way i think of it. Stick lives on!!! I will never own a sports car with an automatic. It takes all the fun out of it!!!!

While you are at it why not take out the automatic choke, fuel injection, ABS, etc. You probably never driven a car that's is not controlled by a ECU. My first car (1971 VW) had a manual carb , no ABS, had point(s), manual trans and no ECU. You are not as computer free as you think you are. Because you shift gears does not make you in more control of your vehicle or free from your vehicle's own brain. The engine and gearing instructs you when to change. Not you. Today's automatics can be operated at many levels of performance. If you desire to redline every gear that is possible. If you want to shift at an economical manner that is also possible. Both mode of operations are just dependent on the throttle opening and speed of this opening (mentally shifting via attention to the driving experience desired).

It is okay that one desires to use a manual but to assume that everyone who does not shift is enjoying the driving experience less or has less control over his/her vehicle is completely out in left field.

As I stated before, drive what you want and want what you drive. Personally I would not own anything less than 8 cylinders ( a few exceptions Dino Ferrari and 911 series Porsches over 3.0 liters) but I would never stated that anyone with a 4 or 6 is enjoying their vehicle or the experience of driving less than me.:wavey
