Clearkote Durability

so........the clearkote boner :) seems to have faded from early on this year.

How has CK products been holding up. 2 months ? 3 months ? I'm sure that most of ya'll are using Quik Shine every weekend anyway, so it's probably much longer.

I'm thinking about buying the whole CK combo -

Quik Shine

Vanilla Moose

Moose Wax

At that price point, I may just as well get *Package A*. What'

s really appealing is that all this stuff can be used in the sun ! I don't have a garage so detailing in the summer will be more versatile.

Skip the regular Moose Wax and get the Carnauba Moose Wax which is on the order page. It compliments Vanilla Moose very well and has a deep wet look.

For me, Carnauba Moose has been lasting as long as S100 does, which is about 3 months in the wax friendly Dallas area (no heavy industry so no acid rain or industrial fallout).

I wouldn't say Clearkote has faded a whole bunch, a lot of people use Vanilla Moose and Quikshine and if Everett would put Carnauba Moose on the products page instead of just the order page, it would be easier to find and more people might then order it and discover how good it really is.

Mr. Glass will let you substitute Carnuba Moose in place of Moose Wax. All you have to do is ask. Great customer service.

I see a lot of people using CK or recommending it. I like the Vanilla Moose/Carnauba Moose Wax combo a lot. Quik Shine is my favorite detailer since it leaves the finish with a very slick feeling.

Both Products - VM or MW are both wipe on/wipe off applications.

Any benefits in using a dual action with their products ?

I'm trying to clarify what each does what. Is VM a cleaner/glaze - no abrasives ? Or does it fall somewhat inline with #9 but with more filling capabilities ?

I have used a PC to apply VM. The benefit is that you cover more area effectively with less fatigue and time. I think that VM is closer to #9. It has some abrasive qualities.

I use a PC and white pad for VM and a foam hand app for CMW. VM has oils and a very minor abrasive in it as far as I know.

Yeah, VM *DOES* have VERY mild abrasives in it. Just TINY bit more abrasive than GEPC, at least initially, as best I can tell (experimented with both on single-stage paint). It seems less abrasive than #9, which sure isn't too aggressive either!

I almost always use a random orbital to apply (and often remove) VM. I just like machine application, and on ss paint it's easier to work the product more. Not sure there'd be much advantage to working it longer on basecoat/clear since it's so mild, but Scottwax has had decent swirl removal/reduction results with it, so maybe.

Just FYI, I washed the two Lexus that I've been using VM/CMW combo since this summer. I last waxed the 1994 LS400 on October 17th, so it has been about 11 weeks now and it was still beading very nicely and had moderate slickness-very slick under an mf towel, less so with bare skin, but still decent. Best part of all, it is retaining it's 'look'. Still very wet and glossy looking. I took pics and will post them when I finish this roll.

Scott, do you put CMW on 1x or do you layer another coat over the first one?

Just one layer. VM also has wax in it, so adding a second layer of CMW probably doesn't aid durability much. It may add a bit more depth though.
