clear tails

alrite these are my stock taillights on my 97 nissan pathfinder LE:

these are not the ones im using now but i was wondering how easy would be to make them clear. is it a simple paint job or do i need lenses, i dont want it to look cheesy. any ideas?

So something like this doesn't do it for you? If it looks like the housing is clear on your factory tails, then there may be colored refractors/diffusers inside that can be removed. I could't say without seeing some in person though. Usually if you remove the colored pieces you'll see the chrome reflectors through the clear housings. It usually doesn't look too good. You can find the lights I pictured for about $100 shipped on ebay.

lol these are the ones i mentioned that i currently have. They look awesome in the pic and i really like them but they just look weird from the side when on the car. Maybe i could somehow replace that red round lens with a clear one...u think thats possible?
 
only reason im interested is because i kind of have the whole clear lights thing going with the clear corners and turn signals in the front. Just thought this would give it a cleaner look. But that light without the red would be insane. u can see them on my car, links here:
