Clear coated wheel polishing

Pretty interesting article. The guy wasn't stuck to his favorite product and it is interesting the cheap stuff came out better.

On another note.

I think its pretty tough to see differences in a car's shine in a photo, certainly one that is "internet sized."

I would like to hear how you guys polish clear coated wheels. I have worked on a couple vehicles with clear coated wheels that were faded and scratched up. My understanding treat them just like polishing paint but I am wondering what products you use and how you do it. Here is an example of a particular wheel that am talking about.

thanks

I like those wheels alot - tried to buy a Denali truck with those wheels awhile back and they wanted over $50k for the dang thing !

If you could get a air powered die grinder, a small one, that fits in your hand easily, and find a foam pad, like the Mothers foam pads that are made for drills, and use something mild like Zaino AIO, with just a little cut, and Zaino sealant in it, I bet you could make them look super shiny and at the same time, give them a coat of Zaino for protection.

Hard to see how they really look in the picture, are they just cloudy or what ?

The foam pad would save hours of hand polishing with something else, but if you are not in a hurry, hand polishing definitely takes out the risk of getting power tool back of pad too close to metal and doing damage; of course you always tape up the mandrel behind the pad or put foam on it, right ?

Good luck with these, I sure like them !

These wheels are high-polished aluminum that has been clearcoated. I polish them by hand using a foam finger pocket pad and M205, rubbing with light pressure.

I then buff with a soft dry microfiber.

I usually give them a coat of Clear Seal, Z2P or BFWD.

(No, I don't always take them off the car to polish them... but I've been known to!):D:D:D
