Clear Coat Peeled and Cracked Off

Beemerboy

Just One More Coat
My neighbor has a Rivera about 4 years old (not really sure) These are out side 20/7 365 and hardly ever if at all waxed. In the 5 years that I have lived here I cou d count on one hand the maount of wax jsut I have seen. The other mornig he called me over and said look at the bumper. The clear coat was peeling and cracking off. I rubbed the area with my finger and it came off on my fingers. He said Olds has cheap clear coats on there cars and asked if I could do anything.
I said yes give you a good body shop to shot new clear. Knowing this guy pretty well, I told him the real reason this happened. Lack of car protetion and that is jsut about it.

You would think that this guys garage door faces mine that he would have jsut said how mcuh for a fresh coat of wax.

Anyway that's my story some people just don't care

Beemer
There's alot of people that just don't care about exterior care of thier cars. As long as it runs thats all they care about. Usually the back seat of the car looks worse then some peoples trash cans. :lmfao

Beemer,
I had one guy working for me cared so little about his car. I offered to wash it for him, he told me "No, it will get done when it rains"
but he was also the guy who could understand why his last one just seemed to "rust out"

ROLL and JAY

that is so true.........LOL

I really think that clear coat gives people a false since of security about protection

FWIW:
[A] There may be a hidden warranty from GM on a car less than 5 yers old. They painted some areas on a Chevy Astro van for me when they started peeling after about 4 years. The Astro had been waxed about 6 to 10 times each year and it still peeled.

It was a pretty wide spread problem for several manufacturers in the 80's, but I thought they were on top of it by now.

[C] The Riviera was made by Buick rather than Oldsmobile.

Thanks for the amswers. I just had to think that I see these cars sit in his driveway all year long and the rain is about the only time that I see them get wet. The amount of abuse they get I just had to think that it was that rater than a mfg problem/

I will however tell him what you said
