adamah, you never heard that surfactants make water wetter? I think it's an old soap advertisement or something. anyways, when surface tension is broken up (not just by addding soap) but basically from a lack of wax (or when your wax is on its way out) then the water will wet out as opposed to bead or sheet.

Well the neighbor put the sprinkler on last night and I have spots on my truck! Luckily she is cute.
There are mineral deposits since our water is loaded with them. QD'd them and they are gone.
I wish my truck sheeted in lieu of beaded. Then I would not have to QD the spots after every rain and sprinkler incident.
Maybe a reason to try blackfire. I do remember some snake oil salesman on TV selling the same sheeting wax stuff about a year ago. Anyone remember the name?

I think I follow what people are saying here but I get sheeting on the top panels (hood, roof and bootlid) but get beading on the side panels. Is this just gravity or is something else going on?

That I had with KLASSE. What I never tried though, was a water test with just AIO. AIO + SG caused the sheeting, but I wonder what just AIO would do?

DK, I got sheeting on most parts of the car, including the side panels, with just AIO.
The stuff is incredible. It's a perfect base for my PPG.

Do you guys apply klasse like I apply Zaino?The hood,roof and trunk lid in back and forth motion( Bumper to Bumper).The sides in a up and down motionTop to Bottom).May be a stupid question but do you think the direction the product is put on my make a difference?Just a thought

AIO sheets too. To me, SHEETING is preferable in some areas as it will reduced spotting from hard water or intense sunlight after a rainstorm.

if you put a drop of water on your hood and it will either bead or wet out or something inbetween. Testing the hood this way doesn't distinguish between sheeting and beading though (because a hood that sheets water will bead on drop of water), it just distinguishes beading/sheeting verses wetting out.
And wetting out on your hood means its time to rewax. Just like for QD, if you look on the label on the product it says if the QD doesn't absorb correctly it's time for a rewax. (Hey! maybe that's the test, when QD application is bad then your wax is shot)

The most aggressive polish I have used is Menzerna Intensive Polish with CCS Orange pad, using PC or Flex. I think my main error was using some tilt to match the contour of the hood, with a pad without rounded edge.
So...using it as a lesson, besides 'don't do that!' how do I and others avoid this.
And, what can be done short-term to minimize the appearance and protect it?
Elsewhere, I have lots of chips in the front, which I have avoided touching up because the imperfections can be pretty glaring, but I think I will just do a mediocre job to get it through til it's time to paint.

Ouch! Do you think it may be possible that perhaps there wasn't a lot of clear coat to begin with in that area?
You could try protecting that area with maybe Opti-Seal or a similar product until you can get it repainted.

I'm not too sure the pad having no round edge would do that. Thant stinks though.
My car has a fender with thin paint and I am going to repaint along with the rear bumper in a month or so.

I have been using 3M Paste Wax, cuz I loved Terry's writeup of it, and have been happy with it. But I bought Menzerna Acrylic Jacket and FMJ for my brother's newer 335xi, and I think I will try the FMJ.

I had it painted after I was rear-ended, by a reputable shop recommended by my friend who had 3 cars painted there. That was in 2000, about 110,000 miles ago. It certainly looked great initially. Maybe if I took it back there to have it checked they would have either guilt or sympathy and give me a price break on repainting. But it's a hard decision to paint just the hood, or the whole car which is $$$.

I think you are right about the re-paint, I always thought I would wait until it was bad enough, Well here we are. You are definitely right about the clear bra, I will definitely do that.
I think my main learning is to not try to do it all with one pass, stay gentle and check and plan on multiple passes, trying with white pad instead of Orange.
Yes, it's a driver and been rode hard and put away wet a few times. But it's a happy car.
