Cleaning Wheel Wells

I am taking my wheels off to clean them up, etc and I just wanted to know what the best way to clean the wheel wells was

Any info would be appreciated

I've used an toilet bowl brush and car shampoo. I'll probably try some APC+ at engine degreasing concentration level next time.

I saturate the wheel wells, springs, shocks, etc. with Simple Green, let soak for 4-5 minutes, then scrub with a tire brush.

Rinse and lay on a nice coating of Tire Foam. (my wheel wells are black plastic, so the Tire Foam makes them look nice and new!).

Mine are also a black plastic material....pretty nasty.

I will go out and get some SG and some crappy tire foam for the time being i guess

Several people have liked Meguair's Engine Kote (EK) this this purpose. I haven't tryed but I'm planning on it.

I am going to use the EK as soon as I get the correct sprayer to apply it with.

For years I used Castrol Super Clean, scrub brush and high pressure when needed, works great.

Indeed, the tire foams attract dust in the wheel wells like mad. Perhaps another spray like MSLT or Trim Shine will not attract dust/dirt so much.

Currently I have 303 on my tires and wheel wells. Once the 303 is buffed, it does a nice job of repelling dust .Unfortunately will wash away in rain. That's why I opted for the EK, I expect it to hold up to a little bad weather. :up

Castrol SuperClean with a heavy/hard brush does a good job. Be sure to wear protective clothing, goggles/face mask & rubber gloves as it is quite caustic/acidic. Try not to get any on the paint, but if you do, rinse immediately. Rinse wheel wells very well, then rinse again. When WW are dry, follow up with Megs EK and let dry.

If you get any on bare skin or get some on a shirt touching bare skin and don't see it, be prepared for some initial irritation then scabbing........

Wow, glad that hasn't happend to me...yet..

I only use the stuff undiluted for the most severe caked on dirt in the whells. For "typical" dirt I use 3 parts water to 1 part super clean.

I'm also going to try the recommended concentration of apc+ to see how it fairs with wheel well dirt.

I have a 92 toyota P/U so my wells are a little easier to access then those with cars. I have had good luck with any kind of shop strenth degreaser/cleaner. Also tire cleaner works well. Latly GLOB has been doing the job. These cleaners with a brush make it easy to clean. I put endurance on the black plastic once every few weeks. Tire foam works great too.

There's no doubt the foam makes the wells look great, in fact, I used to buy loads of the cheapie stuff just for use on the wells but I always had the problem with the dust attraction, so much so that I had to wash and dress the wells again.

Thankfully this year I learned about EK, sounds like the perfect solution to my trouble: nice sheen, dust resistant, weather resistant.

Others have been using the EK for a while and really like it, also, the gallon winds up costing the same, if not less than what I spent on those cans of the foam.

Seems like the solution for me :up
