Is it ok to use household soap like Dawn to clean soft vinyl such as tonneau covers, auto interiors, boat seats, etc., or is it best to use a cleaner that's designed for vinyl instead? What about using automotive soaps?

I thought maybe using household soaps might dry out the vinyl quicker or damage it? If so, is this over time or would this happen if I use Dawn just once?

I prefer to use application specific products for cleaning. Yes, because of that I have accumulated a vast collection of cleaning products and tools.

As far a using Dawn. Like Bill D mentioned in your other thread, the use of Dawn in the automotive environment is controversial. One thing about Dawn (or other dish washing products) is that they produce suds. I don't view that as either beneficial or convenient when cleaning the interior of a vehicle.

You could use a mixture of woolite and water to clean both vinyl and leather.

Never tried dawn.
