Cleaning Rolls Royce/Bentley Floor Mats

What are you people using to clean the floor mats (rugs) in these vehicles? They are made of plush wool (I think?) and I've heard they require dry cleaning only!? I tried doing a spot clean 1 time and it immediately bunched up the fabric (not a good idea). I've been toweling them with a damp towel and it seems to lift quit a bit of dirt, but they aren't perfect. Here's a picture of the rug in question:

what did you use?



i have a hard time believing something like a woolite/water mix or folex would damage it??



if not you can always buy something like dry cleaners secret, which you can get in the cleaning aisle, or a similar product
 
If you don't have a steamer leave them alone and tell the customer to have them professionally cleaned. If you use anything else the fibers will "wick" and look awful.

Exactly. Any kind of concentrated wetness causes major "bunching up" of the fabric and is virtually impossible to correct. These are not your normal floor mats. I'll have the owner dry clean them throught the dealer. I can't imagine what would happen to these things if your feet were soaking wet and rested on them. :soscared:
 
This must be the stupidest thing I have seen in any car. Floor mats that must be dry cleaned. And they don't even look very good IMHO.
 
My brothers Jag has something like this, wool I'm sure. I've only vacuumed it, but it looks all bunched up. I'm sure someone tried to treat them like regular carpet mats.
 
I guess the manufacturer thinks that if you've got $200K + to drop on one of their cars, replacing the mats aren't an issue?
 
Would a comb work? It's the same as hair.

I don't think Bentley cares much for people who 'get their feet wet'. These cars aren't designed for everyday joes.



Do your research. Maybe call Bentley. Everyone has some sort of contact method available these days. Try their website. I don't think they will be stingy with how to clean them.

LOL, I really like the material--for a show car! :D I want to have a set made for my M45 for shows. I looked and you can have a set made for about $300 or so.







David Fermani, on *most* of the mats there is a label that states the manufacturer--I can't remember who it is. I know that I looked on their website for info and all I found was information about slippers, mittens, etc. :D I too would call the dealer and see who is the specialist in your area.
 
I usually use a real lite mist of diluted carpet cleaning solution. i have not found one product to work better than the other. Probably because I use so little. But I use a hair brush with bristles that are far apart (a cheap hair brush). This tends to brush out any bunching with the hairs. I take care of 3 Bentleys and 2 Rolls that the owner uses daily here in Indiana. So I am trying to get dirt and salt out of the mats almost daily. The mats are all black also. I have just found that the dirt comes out of the wool mostly from the brushing. Try not to get them too saturated or they will bunch up on you. Then I let them dry for awhile. When dry, beat the heck out of them and then vac. The only thing is that the vac never seems to get everything. The dirt really likes to hide down in the fibers.



I have to admit that I was very happy when his 2 door drophead coupe was delivered with bamboo floor mats. Don't know if I like the way they look but they are easier to clean.

Yes, the Jaguar Vanden Plas has the same type of floor mats.

I couldn't agree more with Scottwax... get them wet and they smell like a dog. :scared:
 
Ohh wow, look at all the controls on that side of that seat! People cant figure out how to turn the heated seats on in my Jeep since the controls are on the seat, idk what they would do in that?!



I would tell the guy/gal to take their shoes off. That carpet is to nice to have dirty shoes on it.
 
sorry to dig this one up... i believe some of the mats are actually mink. in some flying spurs and phantom, especially. how the hell are you supposed to clean/take care of mink?
