What brands of cleaners is sufficient for cleaning out paint chips before filling them in? I know that a citrus based cleaner is what is often used but it doesn't say on most labels. Is a normal wash followed by isopropyl alcohol in the chip enough to do the job?
Brinn, Yeah if you don't have the citrus based cleaner. Go ahead, hit it with the sandpaper then the 50/50 IPA mix. Sorry, for the delay in getting back up to the site and seeing your response. With this reply, this thread will float back to the top and maybe you can get other opinions.
I went ahead and just cleaned with isopropyl. Filled in the chips (the paint didn't flow quite like I hoped it would :nixweiss but it's passable ). Now to wait a week before I sand down the excess paint.
Remember, thin coats. Use a hair dryer between coats to help speed up the dry time or wait 30mins to an 1 hours between coats.
Wait 24 hours and you're good to sand. Most home improvement stores don't carry 2000+ grit. You'll probably need to find an autobody or fine wood finishing store's to try and get some.
