Cleaning door jambs...

I was just curious what some of you do to clean out those grimey door jambs? I usually give them a wipe down after washing, but they still don't look that clean. Any suggestions?

Sometimes I'll be really carefull with the pressure washer and blast them a little bit. Other than that I"ll use Simple Green and soak'em for a while.......then wipe'em down really good. And other times you just have to say screw it! J/K

I can't believe people use Simple Green on paint. I always use soemthing like a Spray and Wipe to clean it and then a coat of wax.

EO Wet Wipe & Shine with a MF. None of the cars I ever do get very dirty/grimy on the doorjambs. I will usually wax them once or twice a year as well.

I use anything from Simple Green to A heavy duty degreaser and pressure washer if they are bad.
Once I get them clean, I go over them with Klasse AIO ... and clean them with S&W

On my cars, I just give them a quick wipe while drying with a general purpose MF.

On other people's cars I typically use a degreaser pre soak followed by car wash with a bug scrubber. I rinse or pressure wash them, then dry as usual. I typically follow up with a spray wax of some kind (usually meguiars spray wax).

Thanks for all of the ideas. I usually do wipe them out and then use QD+ on my own. However, lately I have run into some damn greasy door jambs that gave me some headaches. Anyhow, thanks again for all the responses. :naughty

I had some really bad door jams today. To give an idea it was a Lexus RX300 "Soccer Mom" vehicle untouched for about a year constantly carting around 3 children under 12. I used Simple Green diluted 4:1 and a soft brush and finished with some #80 on a foam applicator then 4* Carnauba spray and a waffle MF. Looked brand new, wish I had some pics . . .

If they are dingy I will use Simple green and coat it with AIO or PwC. I usually have to just wipe them down in the drying process with an all purpose towel or mf. I will then use a spray wax till I feel the need to add another coat of AIO.

I use Meg's APC and if the hinges are nasty, brake cleaner and compressed air....I also use brake cleaner for grease on engines, just the metal parts. I then wax with Collinite and use a aerosol shine for the weather stripping.

i find using a mild degreaser on a rag will work most times. the part i really don't like is when the hinges are full of gunk from lubing them at the service garage. in a case like that i spray degreaser on them. let them soak for a few minutes and then spray with a power washer. i always do this first on my checklist so if anything gets inside the vehicle, it hasn't been touched yet and is not a worry

I soak em with APC, let it dwell while I wash if they are bad, then pressure wash when I rinse the car. My pressure washer is not very powerful, but if you have one that is be careful of the paint in that area.

I used to use QD and spray wax to clean and wax the jamb area.

I just started using QEW to wash cars and now use QEW to wash the jambs. I follow my normal procedure for the exterior wash. As I come around to a jamb I'll wash the exterior and dry, then open the door, trunk, tailgate, or hood and wipe down and dry. Seems to be a time saver. If the jambs are really nasty then I might hit with some QD and let dwell for a short bit then QEW.

Hi! I Usually Wash Them Down When I Wash The Car First I Spray Them With An Apc And Let Them Soak While I Wash The Car Then I Go And Scrub Them And Rinse. After They Dry While I Do The Rest Of The Car I Usually Just Use A Spray Wax And Wipe With A Mf Towel
