Cleaning dirty exterior soft plastics/rubber

Detailing Gnosis
What is the best products to clean grimy and discolored soft plastics (around windshield, exterior gaskets)?

I was thinking APC, tire cleaner, etc. I prefer something OTC.

I have used Mothers Back to Black with success on another car on hard plastic but I think I need to clean it thoroughly before applying any dressing or protectant.

The truck has just been painted so there is nothing on the paint yet so I am not worried about removing wax, etc.

You are correct, you should clean it before adding back to black. I really like using either 303 cleaner or a regular APC.

Is 303 a cleaner? II can get 303 at Ace. thought it was a protectant without cleaning properties.

BTW, what do you consider a "regular" APC? I see several types: Simple Green and the Purple stuff that has Sodium Hydroxide.

I use the Megs APC a lot...I dont use many non auto products for the auto. Things like simple green and other things may be a little cheaper, but I have always trusted more auto related companies.

I cannot get Megs APC. The local NAPA stores seems to carry the most Meg products but this is not one of them. The closest "auto" APC seems to be Duragloss's APC at Carquest. The only negative I have heard about simple green is that it can mar aluminum if left on to dry. As for the purples stuff it has bleach (sodium Hydroxide) so I do not know how safe that is on some surfaces.

Anyone else have recommendations for an OTC APC?
