Cleaning black exhaust tips?

<span style="color:rgb(0,0,0);background-color:rgb(245,245,255);">What do you lot use to clean/polish black finished exhaust tips?

I'm unsure how they're finished, so not sure if better to use just some polish or a metal polish?


<span style="color:rgb(0,0,0);background-color:rgb(245,245,255);">I'd use to some 0000 steel wool and some megs metal polish/autosol if cleaning normal exhaust, but not sure if this would remove the black, or is just the same as a normal chromed exhaust with some black thrown in?


<span style="color:rgb(0,0,0);background-color:rgb(245,245,255);">BMW M3 E92 is the car, not sure if finishes on other cars are the same so thought I'd mention it.

Those are black chrome; you definitely don't want to go after them with steel wool. What I would do is use an APC and a small wheel woolies brush to clean the carbon off the tips, then carefully follow up with a paint compound/polish on a microfiber towel to get any stubborn stuff off. That way you're not risking damage to the plating/finish.
 
DG501 works well on exhaust soot and is paint safe. It's the first thing I would reach for.

I would use a paint polish on black chrome like others mentioned. Sorry for 2 replies. Hit send by accident on first reply and it won't let me edit for some reason.
