Cleaning between cab and bed

Ok truck guys or anyone, how do you clean between the truck cab and bed? This area is tight on my truck and I can only clean about an inch or two. This drives me crazy because I can still see dirt in this area in good light.Any tips and or tricks would be nice.

Thanks

hmmm i dont own a truck but i guess u can just spray a high pressure jet of water through there?or pour some soapy water from ur bucket in there to let it sink in a bit before spraying...? try finding a super long Q-tip?

Todd,

I posted this last week in the things you hate to detail thread.

I have the same problem, but mine is compounded with the fact that I have a cap on my truck, also.

I had the cap off recently, and AIO'ed and SG'ed all the glass. That helped ease the glass cleaning problem.

For the back of the cab, and the front of the bed, I cut a 2 inch wide strip of 1/4 inch plywood, about 36 inches long. I wrapped most of that with duct tape to prevent any damage to the finish, and siliconed a 4 by 6 inch piece of foam on the end.

That's what I use to wash between the cab and cap. I also made another to add some SG to both pieces.

The clearance between the windows is the real problem. It takes forever to get the streaks off of the glass. The Klasse really helped.

No matter what you use, because of the clearance, it's still a pain in the butt. Let us know what works for you. Enjoy!

I used to have a Ranger, and I pretty much just sprayed water in there. Didn't bother to detail it as no one sees it. If you really want to be a nut unbolt the bed (if it bolts on as most do) and clean it that way!!!! Otherwise, a thin contraption such as Bill's seems like the only other option. Snake has a truck, I wonder what he does??

When I had my tonno cover installed, I was looking around the customizing shop and found a plastic pole about 3' long with a really soft sponged glued on it. I cannot remeber the brand name, but maybe you can stop by a custom shop and find out. It was 12.99, seemed a good deal for people with pick-up trucks.

The most I do is slide my mit as far in as I can with soapy water then rinse. I also zaino in about 4 or so inches and that's about it. As long I don't get big globs of mud in there I don't worry about it. But in the winter I take those wands at the spray wash places and just have at it in there. It's about all you can do besides unbolting the bed or using some sort of mop.

I bought an Avalanche so the problem went away with the design no crack any more. I like the idea of the large Q-tip or MT on a stick.

Hey Steve you got any MTs on a stick for the hard to reach areas?

And just say no to CRACK! LOL

mt on a stick actually came up in a conversation I had with a coworker. I was thinking for the little vents on the inside of the car. You can put a mini-mf on a stick or something, but I'm not sure what I would do (have an idea of where you're talking but not exactly sure). Maybe you could post a pic? That would definately annoy me too.

my poor truck takes such a beating from being on construction sites every day that the area between the cab and bed are usually the least of my problem areas. i literally have mud caked all down the side of truck right now from rain the last few days. Hopefully i can get out and wash it tomorrow. when i do clean the truck i just take my pressure washer and wash down in the crevice as best as possible and then wax down as far as can reach.

mt on a stick... now there is a marketing idea:D

I have used foam paint brushes of various sizes. I have even taped them to a longer stick for tough spots. Apply any cleaner or dressing to the brush. Works great. :p

A few of these ideas I had thought of but was hoping someone knew of a tool out there for this purpose.I was thinking along Bill's idea and will have to rig something to get the job done.Maybe an old wash mitt duct taped onto a pvc pipe or something. If anyone comes up with anymore ideas please let me in on it.Maybe I should invent a tool and market it.Thanks agian:)

I do not have a pressure washer (yet) so I take the truck to the local self serve car wash and use their pressure washer to clean this area. While I am waiting for the bay to open up, I take a solution of car wash soap and water in a spray bottle with me and spray this solution into the space...it acts like a "pre-soak". Then I use the pressure washer in the bay to clean the area.

My Ranger has a cap on it with the rubber boot that fits snug against the back of the cab. Only a strong blast of water from the top lets water trickle down my sliding rear window.

As to the bed itself... I usually just wash as far as I can get my hand and mitt in there (not very far) as it really doesn't get that dirty. When I can, I blast it with a high pressure washer. The weird thing about mine is that the previous owner dropped a wad of newspapers between the bed and the cab, sitting somewhere on the frame (and luckily away from any hot, moving parts) and they are lodged in there so tight they still haven't come out. Blasting them with the pressure washer only removes bits at a time.

I've had the truck for 5 years and they are still there, but slowly getting smaller. I only hope they aren't rusting out the metal where they touch since they get wet often. I suppose I will need to unbolt the bed soon and remove them.
