Clean before conditioning every time?

Hey guys, I was wondering if when y'all condition your leather do you clean it everytime? I ask this for in AZ I must condition my leather every month, but I would think that cleaning it every month would not be good for it (I dont know why just seems that way to me with the water and cleaners). But on the contrary if you put conditioner on top of uncleaned leather are you just locking in the dirt and grime? Thanks for the help, I use Lexol to clean and Adams to condition.

I would clean the most used leather every month and then condition.

You won't be locking in any dirt when conditioning without cleaning first . You're kinda thinking that leather conditioner is the same concept as paint sealants and waxes. Its not . The conditioner goes into the leather and softens and leaves some UV protectant, it doesn't form a shell around it. No dirt will be locked in. It might scuff or scratch your leather while conditioning.

Be sure to vacuum good inbetween the seams . I pull apart the seams with my hands to make sure I get all the little pebbles..

On a side note , try some 4* L.C. when you run out of Lexol. Its my fav by far. you might like it too.

So clean it first before conditioning every month? Cleaning it so much wont dry it or do more harm than good? Kinda like washing your car too much? Just curious.

I used meguires cleaner 1st and then the megs conditioner. now every month i use the meguires cleaner/conditioner to maintaim the leather.

at first i tried to use the cleaner/conditioner one step to clean my interior and it didn't clean well that's when i got the seperate megs cleaner & conditioner, man it did a nice job. now i use the cleaner/conditoner one step and it does a great job for a maintenance cleaner/cond but whatever you choose give it a good cleaning 1st.

I wouldn't clean them everytime. Only when they are obviously dirty would i clean them. I clean my seats every few months but i put a thin coat of conditioner on them every 2 or 3 weeks.

so far my regimen has been to clean the first time with woolite/water mix. but of course u can choose wa\hatever cleaner u feel best with. i just sue this since im too lazy to go get some lexol cleaner.

then i layer one nice application my conditoner of choise.

after that i maintain the seats weekly with meguairs interior detailer.

every month i get a damp cloth, preferably a mf towel damp with water. then follow with a leather cleaner/contioner.

only reason i stay away from cleaning the seats with cleaners too much is i feel i might be removing more oils than i would be adding with the conditoner.

after about 2 months i just start the process all over..

i like to keep a calender in m garage to follow up.. pretty sick i know.
