claying questions

1. For those who use clay with a qd, do you re-wash the area being clayed or just wipe it off with a microfiber towel? For example: wash/dry, clay with qd, wash/dry again.

2. For those who don't use a qd, do you use soap & water or just water alone?

I have used soap/water, and I've used a QD as well. Either way, I don't wash after that step. I just wipe it off with a MF towel. There may some residue left over, but when you apply a polish or a cleaner, you will remove any residue left behind by the clay/QD.

When I use soap and water, I put about a dime-sized spot of car soap in a spray bottle, and fill the rest with distilled water. That way you won't have to worry about any hard water spots on the vehicle.

This all depends for me. If I am claying a car that is in *real* bad shape, I rewash because it's a total mess afterwards. Now, if I am just doing a very light maintenance clay, I don't rewash. What I mean by light is only the horizontal surfaces or sometimes just the hood, and not removing much of anything at all.

Most of the time, I just clay as I wash the car, so this kind of washes it off as I go too.

I use car soap mixture to lube. A swipe with the soapy mitt and clay and area. Rewipe with the mitt. Hose off when large section completed.
