Sorry I'm a newbie to this forum and apparently to claying too! So...lemme get this straight- you DO NOT have to use the supplied QD (<- what is qd anyhow? I assume it's some kinda polish that's not water?!?!)..and instead you can use just plain water or soapy water and the clay bar?!



wow..this woulda been useful knowledge before i bought the whole claying 'kit' from Mothers..it comes with a spray bottle full of polisher to be used with the bar....

I'm not one of these guys who's gonna make you squirm and find out on your own or do endless searches.....



QD is quick detailer. There are lots of brands. It's been on the market for a few years and is primarily used for touch-ups in lieu of washing your car.



Wal-Mart carries the "mass-market" QD's and the most of the "premier" QD's are available at various car-detailing sites on the internet.



I have found running water and/or soapy water to be quicker.........
 
I'm probably in the minority here, but I only use the QD (quick-detailer) product when I clay. The added lubrication it provides makes me feel more comfortable when claying. But that's just me ...
 
I actually tried using water as lubrication for the first time just yesterday....it worked OK, but not spectacularly. After claying the car using that method, there were a couple areas I had to do over.
