Clarification regarding Trade Secret and Pinnacle Souveran

Accumulator you own a S8?! What year? Any pics?

do you live near me so I can steal it??!! ;)

PICS PICS PICS PICS PICS PICS!

Nah, no pics and I'm pretty far away from you. Well, I *do* have pics somewhere of it all smashed up and bandaged with duct tape but I dunno where they are and I've never digitalized them. If you're ever around Stoddard Imports in Willoughby you could see it when it's in for service. Though they usually keep it hidden/out of harm's way ;)

It's a '01. Silver/black. Debadged. About 7K miles. Crappy paintwork on about 25% of it (and some scratches on the wheels) due to its "deer incident" and the subsequent repairs  Of all the cars to wreck it had to be *that* one :o There's a post on the incident in the Car & Driver Forum, titled something like "Audi S8 vs. deer".

You really *oughta* see that car, you'd see why I'm always raving about the polish/LSP combo. I just happened upon that combination when I was undoing the damage from its having been washed and polished by somebody else (in the course of the repairs). Even though I'm still quite unhappy with the paintwork (after numerous re-dos I just accepted that it's ruined), it sure did polish up nice! I was all :shocked about how wonderful it turned out and I still think it's truly something special. Heh heh, I know that I probably sound off my nut when I say it's that much better than Klasse but if you saw it you'd see what I mean.

If you tried the same thing on your Melange car you'd be sold! First 3M PI-III RC and MG by rotary, then MG by Cyclo. Then 1Z PP by Cyclo and lots of 1Z (pro) MP by Cyclo. Finally MP by PC. Took many days to do all that polishing (*many* passes with each polish and hours of inspecting). Then UPP, multiple coats. I've never seen anthing like it. That was last summer and even after a lot of washes and some really long roadtrips it's still just amazing. Makes my wife's A8 look like it needs a repaint when they're parked side by side.

I drove by Stoddard today! If I would of new. I get my work done there.

What month was that Car and Driver? I subscribe to it and have the last couple of months.

I hear you about polishing an Audi. We've had that discussion before. Sorry about the car. I would die if my got totalled. I'm going to take your word on the products you used. Mezerna before, but what do you sugest for a polish for a German car? WIth the pain in the butt clear coat. Of course you can't get 1Z anymore. I see so many people on here that use UPP. I sware in a month I will by some. So many people have been eagering me too and I have so much respect for everybody on this forum I have caved in.

Where's your shop at Accumulator?

audipower- Heh heh, my wife's A8 is at Stoddard right now.

Sorry, I wasn't clear. By "Car and Driver" I meant the Car and Driver forum here at Autopia. I posted the story of wrecking the S8 here back in late '03 right after it happened. It wasn't totalled (I patched it up and kept going) but it sure isn't the same.

You can still get 1Z, just gotta look for it (I think PakShak has it).

For serious correction on Audis I use the rotary and 3M PI-III RC/MG, then 1Z stuff via Cyclo. 1Z works OK by rotary but I'm just used to the PI-III. Biggest thing it to get it nice before you go to LSP. By the time I finished with the 1Z MP it was just right. The UPP didn't seem to really add that much, but it didn't take anything away either.

I don't have a "shop" in the commercial sense, just a well-equipped shop/detailing garage here at the house.

I haven't tried S100, but I have tried its close relative P21S. Used on the XJS, P21s gave a totally different look from Souveran, and I greatly prefer how Souveran looks on that car. This was *not* a subtle difference either...I've used Souveran on it for maybe 15 years and I sure know how it usually looks ;) The P21s is more reflective, but with a lot less depth and "richness". I can see how some people might like it better, but I don't. But I *can't* imagine somebody thinking they're virtually the same product, at least not on that car.

FWIW, I also tried TS on it back when the whole "it's the same as Souveran" thing first got started back in, IIRC, the '90s. Again, it did *not* look the same as it did with Souveran.

Thanks, Accumulator. I can always count on you for a reasoned take.

The amazing thing in this thread is the marked disagreements between a group of thoughtful, experienced detailers. There isn't a single poster in this thread that I don't have a lot of respect for, and yet you all have much different takes!

i think pinnacle sonus and backfire are all house brands manufactured by classic motoring aka properautocare.com

Pinnacle is a house brand for Autogeek.

Blackfire is a house brand for CMA

Sonus is a house brand for Autopia.

Three different entities here.

So who makes Sonus polishes, pads, clay, paint cleaner and so on?

You'd have to ask DavidB about that. However, whatever the source, SONUS is Autopia's house brand. SONUS is not produced by CMA, as the above poster suggested.

After reading this thread I'm more confused than ever. I thought Pinnacle was its own company. I was thinking of trying Pinnacle, is it a over priced house wax? I use P21s wax and I like it. Is it not a German wax like it seems? My detailing house is coming down. My dreams are ruined. Next I will find out that Meg's is run by a drug cartel from Columbia. My head hurts. Wes

Calm Down. Hope this will help:

"A message from Max, Founder and Owner of Wolfgang Concours-Series, Subsidiary of Palm Beach Motoring Accessoriesâ€Â¦

Upon venturing into the premium car care market 25 years ago, I suddenly realized my life-long passion. I was fascinated by variations in waxes, paint sealants, leather conditioners; what goes into them, how and why they work, which combinations yield the best outcomes. In 1997, I created and launched the award-winning Detailerâ€â„¢s Pride Professional Detailing Products. A few years later, I became co-owner of Pinnacle Natural Brilliance, a complete line of car care products for the discriminating auto connoisseur, built around a pure carnauba wax.

I believe Max also runs Autogeek. P21S is a German Wax, its imported in. Meguiar's is definitely run in America.

SilvaBimma, thanks I think I can make it till tomorrow. I might have to order some more detailing stuff to soothe my nerves. Wes

The fact that Pinnacle is an American owned company (and also happens to be associated with the AUTOGEEK site) doens't mean much. And, when we talk about "house products," like the SONUS line, we are also talking about very high quality products that are developed by companies that specialize in high end detailing products.

So. my reference to "house brands" was certainly not meant as a negative comment on quality.

For what it is worth, Pinnacle, Wolfgang, Detailers' Pride are all associated with Autogeek, as is "Cobra" microfiber products.

Sonus is associated with the Autopia site.

Four Star was associated with Premiumautocare.com, although th 4* recently spun the site off to an independent company.

Blackfire seems to be associated with CMA (Properautocare.com).

Uncle, I agree, I have some of all the house products you mentioned, and I think they are all of very high quality. Wes
