Cicadas

Any other area going to be plagued with cicadas besides southwest Ohio? 5 billion are expected to emerge in the next 3/7 days.

I've heard that DC and that area up there is supposed to get hit pretty hard. Catch as many as you can. They taste like bacon if you fry them up right. Yummmmmy!

Maryland is going to be bad with them as well. I heard that they will last about 8 weeks! My truck will not be clean all summer...

I read today they plague most of the eastern US. But they should only last about 2 weeks as adults. I also read there are about 1 ton per acre. At least they don't sting or bite. And they make poor pets as they don't live very long. :)

They're expected to live 5/6 weeks here. They'll be out in time to attend my daughter's graduation ceremony.

South Central PA looks like another hotspot. It looks like Harrisburg will be right on the edge of one of the heaviest concentrations.............Yipee

That pic is kinda creepy ......What are those anyways, are those the bugs that make that buzzing noise? Is there another name for them?

All you Cicada invaded guys/gals should go out side and take pics of the aftermath. I remember i was in Long Islang, NY several years ago (perhaps 10 or so?) and it was true Cicada season in sumer. Ill tell ya, the buzzing noise they make is piercing....and these insects have to be the clumsiest and fattest thing with wings ive ever seen. They fly around lazily and bump into various objects, sometimes knocking themselves out (or even killing themselves). The downfall of their super short life span is that the bodies amass in the hundreds (sometimes thousands) in streets, sidewalks, fields and unfortunately....cars.

Im in South FL now, so im safe.....but if any of you ppl have digicams, snap a few shots if your in the 'hot spots' im curious to see how 5 billion cicadas look like.

hehe.

Well, the 5 billion is the number I've heard for just our cincinnati bypass area - inside it. What the number is all around it - I've not heard.

I believe there are 13 year and 17 year Cicadas. It should be about that time for Southern Indiana as well. They look creepy but really one of the few bugs I'll pick up. I love to listen to them at night.

Amber:)
