Chrome Door Handle Cover Removal

Ok I just bought an 05 Harley Davidson f250 with some god awful chrome door handle covers. Id like to remove them and not hurt the paint behind them any suggestions welcome. Was actually thinking of using a heat gun to warm up the adhesive and use a knife and pry the chrome back and use some 3m adhesive remover to get it going. Other opinions?

You can always try the fishing line trick. Heat it as you have suggested and then insert the line behind the item to be removed pulling it back and forth (pressure always against the part to be removed and not on the paint. It kind of acts like a flexible saw blade.

That will probably be one of your safest bets.
Then follow up with an adhesive remover.

Just be patient, you may have to reheat it more than one to get it off

Most of the time once you've opened it up a bit you can manipulate it off with just fingers, patience and a hair dryer.

Yep, I agree with the others. You definitely DON'T want to use a knife to pry it up (too easy to slip and cut yourself or the paint.

well should i use a heat gun or hair dryer? I wouldnt think a heat gun would hurt the paint if i keep it far enough back.

Either is sufficient to warm the adhesive up. The heat gun will do it and then some. The dryer is completely safe.
