Christmas in January?

Sal's gruffness is a New York/New Jersey thing. Everyone who lives there sounds like that. I grew up in the Midwest and lived in NYC for four years, and when I first arrived it was quite a shock. It doesn't mean anything. NY/NJ'ers are very nice people. It's just how they speak.

From my understanding, it is called a polish because thats what Sal decided to call it. Its just different nomenclature for a sealant. While Zaino isn't as mainstream as say Meguiars or Mothers, it is certainly much more well known than Platinum, Poorboy's, Cleakote among others to the general public. Get on just about any Viper board, Corvette board, and many others, and you will find that a vast majority use Zaino. Everyone knows that the word polish and wax are often times synonomous in the publics eye and it wouldn't suprise me that Sal just decided to use the word polish to describe his products which are actually sealants as wrong as it may seem to us who think of polish in the term of removing paint defects and bringing surface gloss.

That's also my question?

It's just a terminology thing. The terms "polish" and "wax" have been so misused and abused that they're almost meaningless.

I once heard that when someone asked Sal why he calls his products a "polish" his response was something like, "What else am I gonna call it, 'Super Durable and Reflective Polymer Paint Sealant'? That won't fit on a label." So he calls it Show Car Polish.

CObRyan - Why did you dislike the Z12? I find it a nice product due to being a little on the mild side for a glass polish.

blackcaraddict - overhyped? well maybe, but its not a bad product if used correctly. I am sure most other products (waxes and sealants) will look good on a polished out car, but I like the Zaino's ease of use.

Well have you checked Meguiar's list of terms lately? their polish seems to be a "pure" polish that does not remove defects but covers them up, its non-abrasive. The word polish and wax has been used, abused, and used some more. The posts above this one explain that.

I would say use Z5 on non-clear coated paint if you are on a budget. It says you can use it on non-clear coated and clear coated paint.

Just for giggles, here is my Zaino :)

PS. Whats up with the new Z5 packaging? (well blue top)

At a bare bones minimum, my understanding is that you only "need" Z2. You can use AIO in replace of Z1 or ZFX if you choose, use your own car wash and your own QD. However, it is also my understanding that Zaino does in fact work the best in the system, so that means, Z1 or ZFX, Z2 or Z3, Z5, Z6, Z7 for best results.

Zaino just seems overly confusing to me.

Klasse you just use AIO, then SG (of course you can add steps in to make your life more difficult though).

Blackfire, you use their POLISH (:o ) and then their "paint protectant."

This is one reason I haven't tried Zaino yet and it's low on my want list--it takes a long time and there are too many steps involved. Otherwise, every Zaino car I see looks top notch, but I wouldn't say other sealants don't look as nice. Remember the BFII/Zaino test on that red Toyota truck? They looked fairly similiar, with the nudge going to the BFII. :)

Honestly, for myself I would love to try Zaino, but I am too lazy to got through all the initial steps especially when it's 20 degrees outside, not a good time to learn a new product, currently I use the P21S and Klasse Twins products, maybe some day :)

First let me say I've never used this so it is just speculative- I used to feel the same way about it being difficult and initial steps, but think about it, how hard is it really? You wash the car, clay if you'd like, dawn wash or use an alcohol/water mixture to remove any oils, apply Z1 or Z2 w/ ZFX, then layer Z2 as much as you want. If you have paint defects, you obviously have to remove those first, but how is it any different than using AIO and SG, its just Z1 and Z2 with the optional Z5. The drying time is longer than SG w/o ZFX, but with it, you can do 3 layers a day.

COBRyan,

Next time you have some Zaino stuff that you can't stand, throw it my way. I'll even pay the postage. :D

:D

I'll be second in line to catch;)

I don't use Zaino anymore (although I'd love to try some of the new formulation, throw it over here too lol) mainly because I ran out of the Z and I wanted something with a little more depth when I got my new car. I really enjoyed the Zaino on white and on silver, but wanted something warmer for the black garnet. Zainos a great product though, I like it worlds more than Klasse. I don't get why people get so venomous with hatred over products they don't like. I dont like Klasse, but you wouldnt see me jumping on a post of new Klasse stuff spitting fire. Calling Sal a "dikkface"? c'mon.

I also really like the Zaino glass polish but found the plastic polish somewhat wanting. Oh well, to each their own :nixweiss

This thread was started almost 3 months ago I'm re-using it cause it was here that my desire to try Zaino become effective, and now I can say something .... Only about the paint polishes tho, apart from paint care products I only have the shampoo.

And what can I say? :D

- *I* don't like to use it over AIO, as AIO isn't clear enough *for me* to use under Zaino  My dark green becomes blueish

- What I like best to use it is: Menzerna IP, FP, *PO85U* and Z5 :xyxthumbs

- I have always followed any product by Z1 before Z5 or Z2 during my testing.

- I have found that after a wash, it *doesn't* attracts more dust than any other product, but if one uses Z6 on a section, that section will have a lot more pollen than the rest of the car

- Z5 *does* fills or whatever it does to light mar caused by washing the car. Another coat and it'll be crystal clear again :up

- It doesn't look 'plastic' at all, maybe that happens after a zillion coats, I've only put 3 at most, and not to the all car.

- I've never used any dish washing product to clean the car. I've tried AIO, Poorboys Pro Polish and Menzerna polishes, they all worked great as they leave just a clean surface. Perfect for Z.

- It's not such a hard job to use Zaino, it's more like using the UPP system or the Klasse system.

- Do I like it? Of course! It looks great and smells better, why wouldn't I? ;)

- Is it going to replace all other products *OR* is it much better than the rest? NO! I like it, but I don't believe in monogamy in detailing :D

- I have to thank to some GREAT Autopian friends who were kind enough to help me getting my Zaino products without having to be stolen by our European distributor. Thanks, Alan, Tony, Darren and Lynn :bow

Here's the pic of my Z products:
