Chris West of Solution Finish on the Auto Detailing Podcast. Great info

Guz,

Thanks for the link to the podcast. I can`t believe I listened to 45 mins of a discussion on trim restorer. My wife would really think I have a problem if she knew about this. Now I will have to buy some of Chris` cleaner and sealer.

I met and bought some Solution Finish from Chris at Detail Fest 2016. He is a genuine nice guy and I love supporting his company. Dr. G (OPT, met at DF 2016 too) is another nice guy. Need to try more OPT products.

I enjoy learning about the actual properties of how a product works. I learned a lot of good information about plastic trim and how it deteriorates. Chris may not have Dr. G`s chemistry background, but he sure did his research on Solution Finish. I like the "black cauldron" story.

Thanks again for the link
Bob

Glad you enjoyed it. I know more about plastic trim listening to Chris.

Interesting that hat there are 5 different plastic manufacturers on the Chevy Avalanche. Overall a very good podcast.

Listened to this yesterday and took a bunch of notes, I`ve always wanted to hear a thorough conversation with the Chris himself so that I could gather as much info about the product in order to market it effectively as an upsell.

During the few months after my layoff, I listened to 90% of that episode list, just sitting on my couch with the speakers on and listening/studying instead of watching TV.

A lot of them are short "quick tips" and not all are 1hr. interviews and what not.

gonna have to relisten as i was falling asleep after workin all night but wow a lot of information

I took a nap midway through:) Not bored, just tired. Just went back to the last part I remembered and continued. I put Velocity channel on mute and Chris on Bluetooth speaker

Good link. Very informative.

I recall reading some posts on the subject and having some discussion on the subject with Ron Ketcham (formerly of Auto Int) a few years ago. My father has a 2006(?) Avalanche that has been a nightmare in regard to maintaining the plastics. Ron Ketcham warned me about the varying characteristics of the plastics when I was going to try AI`s ETR. ....specifically the 3 panels that cover the bed. He mentioned that part of the problem with product longevity on these components was internal release agents used in the manufacturing process. ....the ETR lasted a while but eventually failed as everything else had.

My dad purchased a large bottle of Solution Finish a while ago. In fact, I was just bugging him about trying it on his Chevy last week.

I have an old bottle of the stuff I have still yet to try but I think I`ll be testing it soon on some specific pieces on my `86 4Runner that have proved quite stubborn (plastic rock guards on the front of the rear wheel wells and the plastic pcs on the top of the rear bumper).

Bummer to hear that the sealer will not be available to the general public. ....although I`m curious if the UV guard in my old Valugard ETR kit might work to help "seal in" in the finish after applying the SF? Maybe I`ll give it a go next week.

Thanks again for the link. I`m actually going to pass this along to my father.
