Chosing The Right Optimum Products

Hi,

After much research & internet study, I have decided to use mostly Optimum products in my initial detailing kit. As a novice, I want to make sure that I have the right products and quantities for my first buy. Perhpas you can assist me?

I plan on purchasing a Porter Cable 7424XP polisher, Lake CCS Pads (6.5" & 4", Org, Wht, Blk, Blu, Red), Gilmour Foam Master, MF towels, many detailing accessories and of course, a set of exterior & interior chemical products (OPTIMUM plus a few others).

Specifically, could I ask you to answer the following application questions and comment on the initial product quantities that would make sense for me to buy? This would be very helpful to me. And, if I you have any other product-line insight, additions or detailing tips along the way, please feel free to add them. OK?

Here they are.

> WASHING & CLAYING: I'm going to try both Optimum Car Wash and ONR. For claying, which clay do you recommend, given that an Opt. clay is not available here? Which clay lubricant do you suggest (or do you dilute ONR as I have seen mentioned)? How much ONR do you suggest I buy as a new "detailer"? [My current clay "selection" is Pinnacle with DP clay-specific lube.]

> POLISHING: I have decided to purchase Optimum Polishes after considering Menzerna, Meguiar's & Wolfgang. Have selected Compound II, Polish II and Finish (my cars are in pretty decent shape). Are these 3 products most appropriate for my application? And, how much of them should I purchase initially........it's either 8oz or 32oz. I have no idea how much is used "per car", typically, and want to make sure I have enough to try but not so much that it just sits on the shelf for a few years.

And, is there anything unique that I should know about Optimum polishes vs. the others I mentioned?

> WHEELS & TIRES: Is Optimum Power Clean a good wheel AND tire cleaner, or should I use something else? Is Opti-Seal a good wheel sealant, or should I use something else? I see Opti-Bond as a highly recommended tire dressing. For the novice, how much Opti-Bond should I buy initially?

Also, is Opti-Bond a good product (probably in a spray bottle) for exterior black plastic, under-hood plastic/hoses, etc.?

> INTERIOR: Optimum Protectant Plus & Use?; I see "leather-specific" products like Leatherique, Leather Masters, Einszett, Lexol, Meguiar's, PBMA brands, etc. (and some are very expensive) AND I also see lots of "multi-purpose leather/vinyl products", like OPP, Meguiar's, PBMA, etc.. To get the best product for the job, should I get a leather-specific product(s) AND have the OPP, as well?? Should I have something specific for vinyl like 303 if OPP is best on leather? See my confusion with these multifunctional products?

BTW, is Optimum Protectant Plus what some call an "interior quick detailing spray"?

> UNDERHOOD, WHEEL WELLS & TAR: Is Optimum Power Clean safe to use on paint (really)? I have seen it used straight from a spray bottle in detailing forum pictures, BUT also see folks comment on needing to dilute it. I assume it is good for wheel wells, under-hood cleaning, etc? Is OPC a good bug & tar remover, if it is safe on paint? Is Opti-Bond good for under hood hoses/plasti & wheel wells or is it too expensive for that (even diluted in a spray bottle)?

Thank-you very much in advance for your specific answers to my detailed questions. The input will help me finalize my initial kit and send me on my way.

Have a good week and I look forward to hearing from you very shortly.

Best Regards. See ya :wavey

I'm in a similar boat though a total n00b,,, I can't answer most of your specific questions but I'll do my best to share my plan of attack.

> WASHING & CLAYING: ONR wash + Zaino clay, plan to use ONR diluted as clay lube. I will rinse the car with a pressure washer and hit tar/bugs/grime with a stronger solution of ONR prior to the ONR wash. If the stronger ONR isn't enough I will use Opt Power Clean as it should be safe for the paint... "all purpose cleaner that safely cleans your vehicle’s dirtiest surfaces. Remove bugs, brake dust, and oily grime when using Power Clean full strength."

> POLISHING: Nothing, for now. After a good wash and clay I plan to use Opti-Seal and Opt Car Wax to finish.

My car is Silver and the paint is in good shape, the plan is to get familiar with the products and techniques listed here first, and then move into polishing phases later (or get help from a pro to make sure I do it right.)

> WHEELS & TIRES: Opt Power Clean + EZ Detail Brush + Swissvax Wheel Brush (from glisteningperfectionstore.com) + Opt Tire Shine

> INTERIOR: Some combo of Opt Power Clean + Opt Protectant Plus + 1Z Einszett Cockpit + Aero 303... Swissvax Leather Brush + 1Z Einszett Leather Care Lederpflege for the seats

> UNDERHOOD, WHEEL WELLS & TAR: Opt Power Clean + Aero 303

________________________

I will get the Aero 303 locally, everything else I already bought online...

Opt direct: Six Pack #1 deal + Power Clean + Opti-Seal + Multipurpose/Glass/Drying MFs. The Six Pack deal is pretty good; 32oz. ONR, 17oz. OCW, 17oz. OPP, 17oz. OTS, 1 Multi-Surface MF, 1 Drying MF

Zaino direct: Bucket + Clay

DetailersDomain: Swissvax Leather Brush + 1Z Einszett Leather Care Lederpflege + Uber Applicator Pads

1Z Einszett direct: Microfiber Wash Mitt + Handsprayer XXL + Kristall Klar Washer Fluid

GlisteningPerfection: Swissvax Wheel Brush + EZ Detail Brush + 1Z Einszett Cockpit Premium + GP CCS Foam Applicator

Hope that helps, and I'd appreciate any clues as well.
