Choosing the right pads

Hi,

My car has got very rough windows, it almost seems like there's this invisible layer of contaminant or something on the surface that makes it feel that way. Any idea as to how I can take it off? Will simply claying the surface solve it?

I had an overspray problem once. Everywhere on vehicle.

I used clay just like you would on the paint. Then polished them with window polish.

RainX also removes crap you never knew was there. Thats why they adviced to clean windows before applying but it still dissolves petroleum based thingys stuck to your windows.

or some vinegar full strength on your windows. Even better, pick up some Zaino glass polish. That will remove everything from the window and polish it up. Finish up with some wax on the window to keep anything from sticking to them..........

I have a question on choosing the right polishing pads. When the spring arrives, I will be using my new Griots 6" RO. I will be purchasing all new pads and I am a bit confused on what the best pads are for me. I will be working on my DD (2006 Titanium Silver BMW 330xi), with light swirls and a few minor scratches. I have read in some places that CCS pads are best for a DA, and some say that flat pads are best for a DA. I would like to use Megs 105/205 combo, and the KBM says to use flat pads. I have heard some good and some not so good on the Hydro Tech pads. I have heard a lot of good about the Kompressor pads. I think my head is spinning from all this.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

For use with my PC7424XP and M105, I generally use LC Orange Flat pads for cutting; with M205, LC White Flat pads for polishing.

For HEAVY cutting, I use LC Yellow pads, but it's rare if I need that much cut.

Finish polishing, I like LC Black pads.

I use a 5" backing plate and 5.5" pads, so with your 6" backing plate, you should use 6.5" pads (as Angelo said)...:)

I'm not sure whether getting lots of opinions will add more clarity or confusion but here's my 2 cents.

I have used:

  • LC dimpled pads (orange, white, black)
  • LC flat pads (white, black, red)
  • Meguiars Soft Buff 2 (yellow & black) flat pads.
I have a FLEX 3401 DA Polisher

Products used:
  • M105/M205
  • Menzerna Final Polish II
  • Menzerna Intensive polish.
  • Blackfire Wet Diamond
I like the Meguiar's flat pads the best.

I think, but cannot prove or verify, that they give better results.

Flat pads, for me, produce less product sling when I use the KBM. When I spritz with water the CCS "dimples" let go of a bunch of M105 slurry I hate dealing with. I like the flat pads because they don't sling (as much).

Flat oranges, whites and blacks for me. I DO love the kompressor black pads for fine polishing though.

That was going to be my next question. I'm with you on the KBM with the flat pads, but what about when applying a finishing polish or sealant? I have heard many good things about the Kompressor pads. Also, what is the advantage or disadvantage with the Hydrotech pads?

Thanks for your input!
