Chipped wheel

After washing my car, just noticed one of my wheels is chipped along the edge of where one of the lugnuts goes. It looks to be about 7mm long, 2mm high, and 1mm deep showing some darkish gray metal. Any suggestions on how to protect this open area?

On a side note, it seems like car paint is getting softer and softer these days. Just clayed my car. There was a small stone imbedded in the paint just behind the front right tire which wasn't removed by washing and I didn't notice it because it was so low. As I was claying the area, suddenly noticed a scraping feeling. The clay picked off the stone and created a mild scratch! Ouch!

For the wheel, I assume the wheel is painted and clear coated? Most are. I would find a touch up paint that closely matches the color. I use the Dupli-Color auto paints at Auto Zone or Pep Boys. I then use Clear Finger Nail Polish over that. It works perfectly. It drys very hard, never seems to yellow, has lasted several years on my wheels and will stop the chip from rusting.

Thanks. I guess the finger nail polish acts like a clear coat? How long after applying the touch up paint would you wait to put the nail polish on and then how long after the nail polish would you wait to seal it with a polymer?

An hour would be fine.
