Chip repair via airbrush?

Is this possible to repair some of my big chips like the ones below with a basic air brush? I have heard of a local shop airbrushing scratches and chips.

I remember seeing an extensive write up on Autopia a year or so ago. An silver porche owner used an airbrush to fix a large chip on his rear fender. It came out looking dam* near perfect.
 
I have a guy here that dose chip and scratch repair with an AB its really an art form but I want to learn more about it....he worked on my car from a shopping cart scratch and you can't tell where it was.....it also depends on the color and if its metallic...those are hard to match is what he tells me
 
My concern is the blending 6-12 months from now. I see car after car with bad blending marks, mostly around wheel wells and on A-pillars.
I wouldn't do it until I could see someone else's result months from now.
