Chenille Wash Mitts

Ok i have been eyeing thess Chenille wash mits/sponges lately but for some reason cannot convince myself to buy one to try. Something tells me that there design would make them hold the dirt while washing since they are a MF. So who has been using these and how do you guys like them?

Richard

First, to clarify a bit.
To me, a chenille wash mitt and a MF wash mitt are two different products.
A chenille wash mitt is here.
And this is a MF wash mitt.

Like you, I would be concerned about the MF mitt holding dirt, but I have no experience with them.
It doesn't seem that anyone is making any negative comments about them, though.

Quoting from CharlesW's reference...

Chenille is a special weave, designed to attract and trap dirt in the thousands of super-absorbent yarns and then releases virtually all ensnared dirt when submerged into your wash bucket.
I find chenille products (I use pads not the mitts) do attract and trap dirt as described above. The "releases virtually all" should be tempered with "sometimes". IME, it is important to visually inspect your mitt after rinsing with some regularity. That goes for sheepskin products as well. Some people use several mitts/pads etc. as part of their wash regimine. In addition to chenille and sheepskin, I also employ the use of sponges which do seem to rinse more completely and more easily.

Charles is correct. Chenille mitts and MF mitts are two different things. IMO neither is as good as a quality sheepskin mitt. MF mitts hold too much dirt and have too much drag on the surface. I find them to be hard on the LSP. Chenille sheds like crazy and doesn't release dirt as well as a sheepskin mitt.

Ok i guess I was under the impression that the Chenille was a form of MF. I have seen some 3 packs of Chenille wash mitts and pads at Costco and they appear to be very nice. I had been thinking about trying them out. I also have been looking at the Meg's and several others. I also happen to use a couple fo different wash mitts when washing and rinse the mitt between soapings and completely rinse out all wash mitts and pads after each wash job. Still looking to hear from those who may be using the chenille mitts/pads to wash and hear how they like them. I have been suing Sheepskin for a long time but hate how they shed and fall apart. I recently purchased this mitt from Meg's but have not tried it out yet.

Ok, I know the ones you are talking about. they are in fact MF mitts with a very long chenille type nap. I have never tried them but because they are MF I would assume they would have the same problems as other MF mitts.

Cool thanks I guess i should stick with what i have been using for years Sheepskin although this Meg's wash mitts is very plush and I do use there Plush Wash Mop and like it so i see no reason why the mitt would be any different. So where are you all getting your Sheepskin mitts? Last set i got was from Costco they had a really nice 3 pack of them, and i am down to my last one.

Richard

i will stick to sheep skin but, I also learned that a good MF wash mitt workd just as good. Diffrence is in the amount of suds it holds :book:

I'm pretty sure I have read some comments about the Meg's mitt not being that good.
Considering that most of the Meguiar's products I have used have been of good quality, those comments surprised me.
Seems strange that Meg's would put out a mitt that caused marring.
Be sure to post your impressions of it after you use it.
You might want to try it on one small area to see if it does do any marring before you use it on the entire vehicle. :)

Charles

The meguiar's mitt is a synthetic sheepskin.
I was checking them out one day in my local autobarn, and I was suprised to find that some of the fibers on them melted (for lack of a better term). Leaving portions of the mitt with some extremely hard plasticy(sp?) areas.
I'm not saying that all of them are like that, but seeing that makes me want to keep with genuine sheep.

Well i am already using the Meg's Plush Wash Mop and i really like it no marring or scratching. It holds a lot of product after dipping it into the wash soap bucket. The only down side with it is it is a bit on the small side. I would like to see them make it larger in size. Also it can flip over on you if your not careful with it.

So what Sheepskin mitts is everyone using?

Richard, I think most people use a Euro wash mitt from Target. You can find some decent mitts. Patrick from Excel Details has the Euro Sheepskin mitts in med to heavy . I think they weigh about 3-4 OZs..

The Target ones are inexpensive and do work well, it's just you (or your son) have to check for the softest ones.
I have 2 of them and for the price it's pretty had to beat.

You should do this your self. The quality of the mitts very greatly even within brands. For example you could go to Target and they might have 20 mitts but no two will be the same and the difference between the best and worst mitt there will be huge. You need to be selective with mitts. These are natural products not man made so the quality will be inconsistent. This is one reason I will not buy a mitt on line. I need to inspect them first.

I don't know why for such a small ticket item why not just buy the good mitts when you order from our sponsors ? This is a small price item that can make or break a paint job no?

I explained why I don't buy on line when it comes to mitts. I can't be any clearer.

It is an item that can make or break a paint job IMO. You spend all that time polishing out your finish and them use a crap wash mitt and marr it all over again. I like to prevent marring in the first place so I can minimize the amount and aggressiveness of the polishing.

I C you need to inspect them , I would just think that the mitts that are on our sponsors site might save you the aggrivation from having to search for a quality wash mitt since they carry the best. just my thought. I have not found anything at k-mart , auto zone, costco etc, that can compare.

I happen to disgree. Too often, I've had sub par sheepskins delivered to my home from the sponsors here. They've stretched, shedded, and are very thin. They have the exact same styled, patterned and colored cuff as the ones I can buy locally. (Unless they have now changed).

Like BillD once put it, you need to pick them like fruit in the produce aisle. In the supermarket, even the high end grocery stores, not all of the apples or pears are worth picking. You sort through and find the nicest ones to take home. Same thing with mitts. Not all sheep produce the exact same quality of hair. So in a batch, you have variances, even from the same manufacturer.

As a result, I no longer purchase mitts online. A careful search of the Eurows at WalMart, the Vikings at KMart, the Vrooms at Target, and the mesh backed ones at Costco have yielded me at least 12 top notch, thick, plush, soft sheepskin mitts. I examine a handful at a time, often taking them all off the rack and then picking out the good ones and further scrutinize them until I can come home with maybe 2 prized beauties out of 20 mitts for half the price of sponsors' mitts.

The one mitt that I *may* consider spending the extra money on is the one at Griot's.

Well I stand corrected and I thank you for that :beer_smil I will remember that when it's mitt time again. :beer_smil
