Checking progress when using PC in shade?

I live in a condo and have to work on my car's finish under a carport. During the day, the fluorescent lights are off and I don't have any direct light to check my progress when I'm battling the cobwebbing with my PC. I'll go to town on a panel for 10 mins or so and then notice that the cobwebs are still there once the car goes out into the sun. :furious:



Obviously, you're not supposed to work in direct sunlight. How do you check your progress under indirect light/in the shade?
 
I'd use as strong a flashlight as I could find. Try different angles. Sometimes dead-on perpendicular is better, sometimes a low angle is better, but in any case, the more light the better. Just don't ding the paint with the flashlight.
 
I have a 3-Watt Luxeon Star LED flashlight I keep in my door pocket. It gives off an extremely bright (90 lumen) purple-ish light that happens to make any surface imperfections light up like dayglow.



Hmm. Maybe figure out a way to mount it to the PC ;)
 
I assume then you have a power source since you are using the PC. You can buy a 500w halogen work lamp stand (250w x 2) for around $30. Might work well, but I'm not sure how much the natural light will interfere with it.



Otherwise, when working outside away from my garage, I do one panel, roll the car out into the sun and examine. Once I get the process right on a panel, I use the same exact process on the rest of the car without rechecking. Some areas on the car can be worse than others, but usually I don't expect everything to be gone, nor do I want everything to be gone.
