Great thread guys...

I must say that after reading John Pfanstiehl's "Automotive Paint Handbook" (1998 printing )I really had a better understanding of different paints systems. I highly reccomend that all detailers/enthusiasts get this book. Check out half.com or Amazon.com for inexpensive buys on this book.

dr_detail ... Proper wet sanding and prep work is unfortunately in short supply at most "Cruise Nights" and "Oldies Show", but if that car was shown at the Pebble Beach Concours d' Elegance, you can bet that the paint on that red vehicle was absolutely free of orange peel and imperfections !!! I haven't had the opportunity to attend a Concours Event yet, but there is a large one in Connecticut that I will eventually attend !!!Hopefully...someday place an entry !!! Have you attended a Concours ???

I admit I do get bored with reflection pics at times, because they can be misleading to the real condition of the vehicles finish, and more of a testimate to the abilities of the photographer. But some of these pics can be really art in themselves. Autopia Forum's Carguy is an awesome photographer and one hell of a detailer in his own right (check out his gallery on Autopia).

...in the case of groebuck, he is a photoshop guru !!!

Orange peel paint finishes kill all reflective gloss, todays new cars suck because of it. Some can be sanded out, others barely give you enough to polish. That really is an awe inspiring finish, I wish cars today had half of the attention to detail as that one got. Would make my job that much easier.
