Charlie's Soap All Purpose cleaner

Just wanted to get anybody's take on using Charlie's Soap All Purpose as an APC for their details. Have not really seen much talk about this product. to make a long story short, I ordered Charlie's Soap Laundry Liquid and they sent me the All purpose by mistake. the next day UPS drops off another package( the correct stuff ) without me even contacting them. they sent a nice letter explaining the mistake and insisted I keep the original bottle to make up for their mistake. this was great to see they caught the errror and corrected it so quickly. I used the All purpose on some cheap MF'S that were used to clean filthy doorjambs soaked in a bucket and was quite impressed how clean they were. anybody out there been using this stuff ? at a ratio of 10:1 it will go a long way but they state you can go 100:1 for mild cleaning :idea

It is great stuff! I use it for every thing from a laundry pre-spray to deep cleaning. I got rid of all the

laundry pre-spray spotters. Now I just use the APC mixed 10:1. It gets anything out of cloths and my polishing pads. I also use it for detailing as a carpet cleaner, leather cleaner, jamb cleaner ect, ect. Its great for kids as well. We always have a bottle of the APC made up inside the house for any general cleaning or laundry pre-spray. As you can tell I love this stuff and can't say enough good things about it. I think it is my best detailing find yet

Now that's top notch customer service! :2thumbs: I plan on getting around to trying this stuff. I hear nothing but positive things about it.

Thanks for the response. after watching it dissolve dirt on the old nasty MF'S I had used on some greasy doorjambs I was convinced it was high quality stuff. since I have a gallon will have to keep my 10:1 sprayer handy when doing my next detail. have to admit it is cool when you find a product that will serve many purposes as it cuts down on how many products I need :grinno:

I was thinking the same thing. they caught their mistake and fixed it before I really even knew about it. the question I had was how many uses can this product really fill ? it seems that it will fill a large need for most people. I just used their Laundry Soap ( per people's advice here) on some MF'S and it worked great. thanks for the tip guys :woot:

The Laundry soap is excellent. I like the way it is both mild AND effective.

Because it is so concentrated, it's easy to use too much. Be careful, using too much detergent is exactly the same as using too much wax. Any extra will be washed out the drain, and you might wind up with detergent residue on your towels.

Have you used the APC on uncoated leather? What ratio to water? It seems safe enough to use on paint when dilluted properly as a pre-saok for stubborn stains / contaminants.

The APC sounds interesting...I'm still making up my mind on the laundry detergent, it seems good- better than regular detergents, but not quite up to the MF-specific ones I've tried. Not bad stuff by any means, and it *is* a lot cheaper, but still not performing quite like the MicroRestore/MicroPak.

I use the APC to prespray all the dirty parts on th MF's. They come out spotless usually.

Yeah, that's the sort of application I was thinking about. Plus, I was wondering if it might work well for carpet extracting (maybe it'd rinse out easily).

It might be my crappy (even after filtering and softening  ) water, but the Charlies just doesn't leave my MFs quite as soft as the other stuff :nixweiss

I've used the Charlie's APC on a floor mat; it worked fine. Accumulator, here's a quote from a Charlie rep (from a laundry forum  :o ):

"There are two CS Liquids that we make. One is the CS- All Purpose (CS13), and the other is CS Laundry Liquid (LS12). They are two completely different beasts. The CS13 is, well, a surface cleaner that we've found works on laundry as a spot cleaner and for in the wash. The problem was, 20 years ago and still now, that people don't normally want to use it in their laundry because A) it does have a chemical smell to it out of the bottle and B) it doesn't go all that far for laundry: about 64 loads per gallon. "

So, you could try the APC in the wash, perhaps that will work better for you, and I'm sure that's still cheaper than a dedicated MF detergent.

Mine come out the same as when I use the microfiber specific products, 'Cume. Indistinguishable.

I purchased a gallon of the laundry detergent and a small spray bottle of the APC. The laundry detergent has been a nice "surprise". I have not had the chance to use the APC.

The laundry detergent is a surprising value since it woud handle 128 loads of wash!

Mosca & AKA Patrick- Yeah, I had been hoping that indistinguishable difference would be my experience as well :nixweiss I was pretty psyched about the idea of using the Charlie's and I still think it's good stuff, just not the absolute best for that application (in *my* case).

IMO everybody who's using the MF-specific stuff oughta try the Charlie's and see what *their* experience is. I bet it's a perfect substitute for most people, wish it were for me.

Setec- Thanks for the detailed explanation of the differences between the two products. And I don't find anything  about a laundry forum ;)

I found a place where it's pretty cheap. If you buy $50 worth of the Charlie's stuff, I think it qualifies for free shipping. http://www.instaoffice.com/search.asp?txt=charlie's+soap&mfgID=0

FWIW, as far as cleaning MF's, I have found Simple Green in the laundry is effective and is $8 a gallon at Home Depot. Like I've said, if it can degrease an engine, dilluted in the wash at the right amount, it can remove stains, grease, waxes, etc...

Hope the link helps for those who want to try Charlies.

Edit: I did some searching and found Leo (DFTowel) responding to these types of washes. I'm quoting him because I think he's qualified to comment. But whatever suits you guys:

30+ years in the textile business got me curious about the claims of these detergents and found that they are mainly degreasing agents. Don't waste your money, use a good liquid detergent with no dyes or perfumes and hot water and you will be fine. This isn't rocket science.

Also, here is a review of some soaps, Charlie's included, on Detail City. Take from it what you want.

Thats where I buy mine. It's cheaper at instaoffice and free shipping over $50 cann't be beaten. Took about 5 days to get to me, so turn around was quick.

My 5 gallon bucket of Charlie's Laundry Soap should be here this coming Friday. $55.xx delivered and the guy that took my order was as friendly as Patrick!

Am I the only one using Charlie's on my laundry?...after all, it wasn't intended solely for MF !!

:thx

No sir, that's why I ordered 5 gallons. The wife luuuuv's it for the laundry. She's giving up Tide that she has used since she first learned to wash clothes!
