Changing my Career!!!! Wrong line of work!!

Hi all,

Man after today I feel like I am in the wrong line of work. I am 28yrs and right now I work as an IT system support for a reputable accounting firm.

After eating my lunch today I decided to go to the basement parking because I heard there are plenty of exotic cars down there. Being an exotic car lover I decided to check it out.

When I got there I was blown away. Park right next to one another is a Black SLR Mclaren w/ Brabus rims, white Lamborghini LP640, Silver Porsche Carrera GT, and a dark green classic Porsche 993 series GT2.

I almost had an anxiety attack because I want these cars so bad. I got close to the cars but not too close because I didn't want the alarms going off. I spoke to one of my bosses and he told me that these guys who drive these cars are "INVESTMENT BANKERS".

I am in the wrong line of work here. lol, anyone here an investment banker?

Hell, if only crystal meth was good drug and legal, I would sell it to everyone lol.

Boy, I hear you on this one, OCD. Heck if only I had passed math and business when I was in high school and college instead of under water basket weaving and advanced breathing. I may have ended up something other than a cat skinner that drives a pickup with a canopy.

If it were me, I would've slipped a business card into the drivers door window trim of EACH and EVERY one of THEM!!

Nah.... Twice the money equals twice the problems. I'm much happier living the "normal" lifestyle. In the very short and few periods of my life when I could have anything I wanted, I found it just stressed me out and wasn't as much fun as I thought it would be. Besides, I suck at math and would never make it in some of those fields. lol

Look at it this way... If you were so rich that you could have anything you wanted, would cars like that even impress you? I wouldn't trade the feeling of awe that I get when I see a powerful car like that for anything.

I hear ya! Maybe not to that extreme but just enough not to stress so much.

A few years ago I lost my job. Company layoffs, pretty much every other person in the office was called up the the bosses office Friday morning and told to pack up and be gone by noon. By the following Monday I was up and running self employed. I ended up making more that year what I normally make. The combination of more money and the freedom of being self employed was a blast. I only worked about 30-35 hours a week and enjoyed the rest of my time off.

So instead of making that much money and working 50 hours a week, I would just like to make a little more and work less. lol

During the summer I put in at least 65 hours a week. Of cousre, that is split between a full time job and the detailing business. ;) I make more in the 20 hours of detailing than I do in the 45 hours for corporate America. I guess the only reason for the day job is to give me something to do when it rains or when it snows from October till April (like it is doing this year). But BlueZero is absolutely right. You'll never get rich working for 'the man'. Working for yourself is the only way you'll have a boss that loves you as much as you love them. lol I envy those of you who have made it as a self employeed individual. I really do.

I agree with Jngrbrdman, I am also very envyous of people who were willing to take the challenge and delve into working for yourself. It takes alot to do that...

There is something to be said about liking your job, god I wish I was one of them...

working in corporate America stinks...

I like what I'm doing. I just wish they would pay me that six figure salary that I'm sure I'm worth (in my own mind :D).

Judging by the way the current economy is headed those cars may not be there long. Be happy with what you've got!

I'm in the same boat Stephan, and is sure makes it hard to go to work everyday. I envy those of you who work at a job that you love doing.

My thoughts exactly...my neighbor is the executive producer at one of our local channels (CBS) and I went to see her produce one of her shows, and it was cool, to meet all those people, everyone was really inot it and seemed to like their job...I am envious of the people who get up and want to go to work.

:bigups I find myself telling this to my brother all the time -- especially when he's boasting about his "3000 square foot mortgage" walking distance to the beach.
