changing brushes in a 9227

I believe the brushes are going out in my Makita, I have never changed them before and am curious to if this is a task that can be performed by myself or if I will need to send it in for repair. The motor will kick in, but it is almost reving and not staying constant, does this sound as if the brushes are going out?

I remember in the old days it was easy to change out the brushes from my drill's but these days they are meant to be thrown away. On the your rotary i would check out in you local area tool supplier and see if it's possible or maybe call Makita and ask them if it's possible.......
 
A repair facility might think your Makita is worth rebuilding. They have the parts available and could recondition it but, at what cost....?

2 and half years
 
Changing brushes is super easy to do and you can hurt anything doing it. Unscrew the caps on each side and they pull/pop right out. Then, just pop new ones in and tighten back up. You can change both in less than 1 minute. I change mine all the time and what's happening with you machine really sounds like that's what needs to be done.



Another thing you can try is taking them out and turn them around 180 degrees so they wear the opposite direction. There's usually more life left if this hasn't been done yet.
 
But wouldn't you like the commuter and armature clean too ??? I just bring it to the repair faculty. So the check that there is no shorts and open's

All's you need to do is take the side cover off and blow everything out with compressed air. Things like replacing cords, brushes & switches are really the only thing that goes wrong with these things. Anything more than that (like an armature)will most likely mean you need a new machine *usually*.

dave, where do you purchase replacement brushes? does it go for all rotarys? i have a vector generic buffer that had the same problem sitting in the garage.
 
I get mine from my detail product vendor, but you would probably get them from the rotary manufacturer. I'm not familiar with Vector, so I'm not sure if they require special brushes.
