Change of pace, just installed a new Radar Detector...

I did read in one auto mag (forget which need memory pills) that the VR1 was designed by engineers for engineers. Thats me. A perfect function design. Who needs all them buttons and extra displays.



CHAFF?! Where are my scizzors? Time to cut up some Aluminum foil and throw it out the window!



And I am gonna get some laser beams mounted on the front of my truck tuned to the cop LASER and blast them!
 
Ok... I read the V1 site. It is always interesting to hear more than one side of a story! I did also read about how tinted windows can reduce laser detection, and side tinted windows can interfere with the bogey counter and detection in general. My Mustang Convertible has no tint, but the BMW has medium dark tinted windows (not limo dark). I am sure that it is metallic tinting. So now I guess I have to buy both an Escort and a V1 just to feel safe... As a matter of fact, I'm gonna throw a coat of Zaino over the Klasse today too...just to be sure! :D

I take the unit out when the car is unattended and at least lock it in the glove box or trunk. It is very easy to do that, so why not. The stereo has also been programmed with a security code rendering it useless if stolen (sour grapes on my part...) But so far the car hasn't spent much time unattended!
 
The VR1 tells you the signal is on the side when the front and rear antenae receive signals from the same RADAR source.



Just make sure your front and rear windows are not tinted with metal too much. And truthfully the front is more important! Just put it below the tint band.



Remember the higher up on the window the better to get better readings from LASER that bounces off the road. Coips are trained to point the LASER gun at the ground and bring it up. looking through the scope, YES they have a scope to identify what they are painting with LASER.



Also it improves range over hills because of line of site. Think of your view from the top of a tall building versus a short one.
 
I do believe the main threat from laser is from the front. I have seen the laser diffusing license plates for the front of the car. Since it is a flat surface, apparently that is where they aim the laser. I don't know how effective they are, but I am thinking about getting one.

The Metal tint also effects RADAR pick up as well.



To test plate cover buy a laser pointer and mirror. Point laser at plate and have it reflect back at mirror. It should be a broad scattered beam not a straight line.



To beat LASER get a detector and drive alert and pray!



Yes, LASER traps get you from front because the cop is sitting on side of road and has to be still to aim the darn thing. Easier to get you when you dont see them. SO look for cars parked at right angles to road cause the rest gun on window. Sometimes they aim car nose at you and hold gun on steering wheel.



Or just follow someone going you speed!
