Was checking our account last night to see when I`m eligible for an upgrade since my screen is cracked.....got to thinking. For me I feel like the phones have reached the point of diminishing returns. I honestly may just keep rolling with this phone until it dies (cracks in the screen are light. can`t even really tell when the screen is on). I just can`t think of what would compel me at this point to spend money to upgrade my S6.

What do you guys think?

I fixed my 5s and now there is a small fracture under the screen. Ordered a new one and will replace the screen. Don`t feel like dropping 1K on a phone. I`ll buy a used 6S later.

I have a Note 4. Had since the release date. Mine is protected by an Otterbox.

You broke it with an otterbox???

Easy peasy fix. Look up ifixit note 4 screen repair.

Oh and buy a screen with digitizer from eBay. Fast free shipping and low price.

I have repaired a number of phones and iPads, honestly I think the aftermarket screens and digitizers have gone down hill. Maybe I need a better source for parts. Since I didn`t keep spare parts on hand getting bad parts was a hassle for everyone.

I would just just keep running your old phone unless there is something life changing in a newer model. I kept my iPhone 5 for 3.5 years until it was bent and worn. I also like to get phone insurance that covers lost or stolen at least for the first year or two.

I`d opt for the S8. Faster processor, iris recognition, and the exciting part, for me anyway, Bluetooth 5.0. It offers 4x range for bluetooth so my fitness tracker won`t vibrate and scare the bejeebers out of me when I hit the front door. I`d be able to go into the back 40 and work all day and I`d still be good.
I have the S7 and it`s blindingly fast but the S8 will be zippier and I`m thinking about seeing if I can upgrade to it.
For you, with the cracked screen and possible upgrade eligibility, you really should go spend an hour with your nearest mobile phone store.

I am still on an Iphone 4, I dont upgrade till the phones dead. I am on a group package at work and we share a pool of minutes and data but the plans cheap but doesnt come with automatic upgrades. When you upgrade you either pay for it up front of they spread the cost over 24 months in the monthly bill. I always keep my phones in either an otter box or a Life Proof case. My mom and dad are on our plan and both still have Iphone 3`s.

If you haven`t already done so, check out used phones on GLYDE.

They have dozens of used phones in varying conditions. I picked up a replacement phone for my son. Cost was around $125, works fine, and a helluva lot cheaper than new. Your carrier can also check the Serial Number to confirm it`s not HOT before you activate it.

If you receive the phone and you don`t feel it`s in the condition that was stated at purchase, you can return it no questions asked.

I`m not really worried about the screen on this one. It`s been like this for months now and hasn`t gotten any worse and when the screen is lit up you can`t even tell the cracks are there.

I was more reflecting on how far phones have come and where they`re going. For the longest time the smartphone`s capabilities and speed grew by leaps and bounds to where at the end of your 2 year contract (and really a lot of times after a year or year and a half) you were making a big upgrade by updating to the latest phone. I feel like now, they`ve gotten so good that any "new" thing or hardware upgrade just isn`t worth sinking a bunch of money into. Honestly I`m probably going to just hold onto what I have until it dies.

My wife keeps buying me "the latest and the greatest" iPhones. Phones don`t excite me. I`ve got a 7plus now and it`s nice but I`m just not into phones. I imagine she will get me the new 8 when it comes out, but I think I would be happy with this phone for years. After all phones are pretty much phones, right?

Heh heh, I`m still using my (third ever) flip-phone...think I turned it on twice so far this year, which is a lot for me in only four months. AFAIK, Accumulatorette and I are the only people we know who don`t have smartphones :o

Accumulator, now you sort of know another one. My unsmart phone is about 14 years old, wouldn`t know a photograph from a spectograph, and only comes off the charger about twice per year and I use fewer than 20 minutes per year - $10.70 with T-Mobile. Nobody, including me, knows my c-phone number but that sucker has one fine charge.
