Celeste Dettaglio Matte and a vinyl wrap sample

Still itching to play with this Celeste Dettaglio Matte I recieved over Christmas. Recently acquired a small sample of matte vinyl wrap a car club friend had laying around.

This is a reshare from my club forum but I added more content for this crowd as I am still learning about vinyl wraps.

I also used Optiseal on a small area for fun.

Applicator for celeste dettaglio matte : gold foam wax applicator

Optiseal: gold ccs jeweling hand applicator

PB spray and wipe to clean the surface

Celeste allowed to sit 10 minutes then wiped off.

Optiseal: wowa as directed

Observations:

Applicators caused ultra fine marring on surface, or at least the appearance of such from the oils being wiped onto the surface. I'm afraid it might look bad on a larger scale such as a hood or roof. Unsure if this was user error or not.

Same issue appeared with circular and vertical/horizontal application methods.
(I wiped off in a zig zag pattern so that rules out the towel as the culprit)

A second application of celeste on the larger area and a wipe off 5 minutes later drastically eliminated these oily marks. (Sorry, my camera phone isn't good enough to pick them up.)

This issue was not seen on my rattle can black (satin) predator grill but it's not a vinyl wrap of course. Although celeste was an absolute nightmare to remove from that grill when left sitting for the recommended 20 minutes.

The piece my friend gave me wasn't in a bag or anything and it wasn't in mint condition but still looked better after the celeste and even optiseal - although I probably need to try a different applicator on each once I get another piece.

What scares me about vinyl and all the wraps my club friends are getting put on is that you cannot polish any marring out so from the time its printed, packaged and shipped...it's beginning a life of extreme risk of permanent scars.
(ouch!)

Thanks for viewing

Comments/suggestions welcomed

Going to leave this on my patio table while im at work during the day to see how it fares.

Once I get another sample I'm thinking about trying some fancy paste waxes (synergy, black ice) just for fun.

I really like Permanon SuperMatte for the matte car (paint not vinyl) I take care of. I use a mini-paint gun to apply and MetroVac to remove. No unnecessary touching of the paint.

Thanks. I'm still probably not taking any matte/vinyl jobs until I practice more on friends vehicles. If I don't think I can do something to the best of my ability I won't take it on as a paying job.

Also-glad to see you back and posting by the way.

How would you use this on matte vinyl stripes? Really interested in this product, because you don't touch the film. I keep getting cars with matte stripes or wings lately and would like something to fill a void in my arsenal.

Thanks for sharing these results 512detail. I wonder how CQuartz would compare.

im sure cquartz would be much better considering its chemical makeup

but I don't have any- and I really really like Celeste on matte- im excited to do my friend's yellow challenger bc it really needs some on the vinyl

wax has officially failed from a beading standpoint at least but the added tint it gave the vinyl has not. I did not check in last sunday, probably should have but almost 30 days outside (id guess it failed around early 20day mark)

taped again and reapplied another two coats.

Going to move outside when I leave for work and inside when Im home just like it was on my (garaged) daily driver.

Will make sure to check in weekly on this one but I'm expecting around 50-60 days.

Side note: applied two coats, first coat left vinyl looking very unevenly applied and second coat removed after less than 2 minutes solved that issue.
