CD-2 Engine Detailer - This true?

I just make a whole new thread from the other one because it looked like it died out. Ok what is going on, i went to autozone, UPC is correct. It showed up in system as having 9 of them as the cd-2 engine detailer. They werent on the floor. The store manager said that black magic bought them out awhile ago. I said no turtle wax did. She showed me to the black magic 2 in 1 engine detailer. I said this is not it and this is a worse product than cd-2. So whats up with this cd-2? She said its the same exact formula in this bottle, but just under a different company because they bought them out. I want the real cd-2 bottle locally! When i looked at the tag it did say I think #4516. , which cd2-4516. She said its the same product #.

I just bought the correct CD-2 Engine Detailer product at an AutoZone last night in Denver. I suppose you could show the Autozone person the turtlewax website clearly showing CD-2 Engine Detailer.

BTW, this isn't the only product AutoZone is screwed up on. Castrol makes two different 0w30 oils. One is fake synthetic just like their other oils. The other under a completely different part number is made in Germany. AutoZone listed both of them as the same thing for a long time. Castrol seems to have figured out what was going on and added the labeling "European formula".

I gotta say though, AutoZone has a better selection of just about everything compared to the other chains around me.

Oh yeah, this is my first post. I've been enjoying reading this site for a while.

Nice to see you come on! The lady was the store manager and i just didnt want to argue with her anymore. Shes dumb and now she thinks she out smarted me. I did see the turtle wax website with cd-2 on it before i went in there. She told me numerous times that black magic bought them out a while ago, meaning like 3 years ago and thats why its the same ID # in autozone. I really dont think a lot of them know anything about cars and especially auto detailing. Ya like she really goes on this forum and knows her stuff. :)

I just took a look at black magic's website. (interesting that they're owned by quaker state). The 2 in 1 product says, "Cleans, degreases and shines in one easy step". That's clearly not the same as CD-2.

Don't think the other thread "died out" I just think your post was seen as a statement as opposed to a question that required a response...

What's your question?

I posted this statement in the other thread and i dont think anyone looked at it because i was the last responser anyways. Just my experience I had today with autozone. Wanted to see if this was true and if I was wrong. Other people had no problem getting it in autozone and checking the availability.

They checked the availability and the it wasn't on the shelf... they then suggested the BM product as an alternative....... Sorry I'm just trying to search for an answer for you but still dont understand the issue...

I use both products. Black magic is a way different formula then CD-2. Black magic cleans and CD-2 doesn't. But CD-2 is more shiner then black magic.

I would clean with a APC anyways. I just want a nice spray and walk away shine.

I don't know if Black Magic's the same or not, but I can at least confirm that the stock number is, in fact, 4516. The few bottles I have all say that as well as the box they came in.

As mentioned in the other thread, CD2 isnt always spray and walk away. It usually requires some evening out and wiping.

You'll find that most products are owned by a larger conglomrate. Look up SOPUS - Shell Oil Products - They own a bunch of companies.

Back to the topic. Do your research, then go out shopping. You're usually more informed than the employees of the place you are shopping at. Don't be surprised if they can't help you.

Black Magic 2-in-1 is DEFINITELY not the same as CD2 Engine Detailer. I've used both in the past. CD2 Engine Detailer has no cleaning abilities.

I'm not sure where in MA you live, but I've had luck finding CD2 at some C.A.P. (Consumer Auto Parts) locations.

I was in 2 Auto zones yesterday and it seemed like they never heard or it. One of my customers who works a AZ is checking it out for me.

I just ordered it from Midway and paid way too much including shipping. I am curious, so you have have to use a APC before CD2? I get great results with 303

You have to clean the engine first. You can use APC; I used Black Magic engine cleaner, which was located IN FRONT OF the CD2 cans at the Auto Zone store last summer. The CD2 is still hiding there, so I bought another. The guy looked in his computer and said he's got 7 cans left. AZ in Ludington, MI, if anyone cares.

Anyways the manager at autozone is retarded. She kept telling me its the same company. I will believe the people on here than some moron autozone manager that thinks she knows everything. She doesnt know a dam thing about detailing. I dont have C.A.P. near me thats eastern MA, too far.

Best of luck in your CD2 search. Let me know if you find it. I haven't seen any in a AutoZone around here in quite a while.
