cars that are cop magnets

First of all cops don't have ticket quotes, cars that cops look for are flashy red black and yellow cars that stick out and are usually sport cars or unusual cars to see, next cops don't have it in for everyone, they are just like u and me doing their job, most cops wont pull you over unless your tags dead or your speeding, or reckless driving or in my dads case have a new car they have never seen. :)

They don't have quotas per se, but you think the supervisors going to think something is a little fishy if his officers have little to no tickets? It's not an official number but they have to pull cars over and issue tickets, its part of their job.

I think every LEO is gonna say that they treat everybody (i.e., every vehicle) the same, but IME it just isn't so.

I'm nearly invisible in the minivan and even the Audi sedans, but I get clocked by nearly every LEO I go past when I'm in the M3 (as it was in the Porsches and the 'vettes). Heh heh, point-to-point I'm a lot faster in boring-looking vehicles than I ever was in much faster cars for just this reason.

Certain vehicles just *scream* "I'm probably an irresponsible [jerk].." and sure, that can bite you. Note that some vehicles also whisper "I might kill any cop who stops me..." and that can bite you too (yeah..that window tint looks cool, but put all the windows down when you get pulled over ;) ).

I had a 2008 GTI with a bunch of engine and exterior mods (about 7k worth) and got that thing pulled over 4 times in 2 months. Once for going 37 in a 35!!

The last time I got pulled over in it was a big stink and the Officer told me they (him and his partner) had been looking to pull me over for a few weeks. :sadpace:

Before that car I hadn't gotten a ticket since I had finished restoring my Fiat 124 Spyder 2000 Pininfarina. That Officer clocked me at 67 in a 45 but luckily was a huge Fiat and Ferrari fan. That was 10 years ago.

The few cops I know say they clock just about anyone who is noticably going faster than the rest of traffic but will only pull over the ones who are going atleast 10, 12 or so (whatever their thresh hold is) over the speed limit regardless of the car type.

Now saying that, it would not surprise me at all if unconciously they do clock the sportier cars (Porsches, Vette's, Mustang's, etc.) more often and just don't realize it.

I have also been told that a motorcyclist in a state without a helmet law is more likely to be pulled over without a helmet than with one.

I've never been pulled over in my parent's Vovlo 850 station wagon even though its turbocharged, I'm 17 and I've breezed past the police going 15mph+ more than the speed limit. I once rolled through a stop sign with a cop doing the same thing, missed him by maybe two feet and he didn't look twice. That car is the opposite of a cop magnet. :up

Now with my car I'm looking forward to probably getting pulled over very soon. I've had it for two mothes and not yet, I have my fingers crossed.

<grin> I know what you mean. When I'm in my minivan, cops don't even take a second look regardless of my speed. Almost the same goes for my other cars. However, when I'm in my Evo, cops slow down, pull up next to me to have a better look, do a quick u-turn and follow the car for a while, one guy - a Sheriff - even tried to get me to run him off a light.

Sounds like total bullshite!

I didnt know that the CLS63 and the CLK63 were so popular that cops write 20% of their tickets to people driving them?

Yeah, ok..

Math check. :D "Top 10" doesn't mean 100% of the tickets...just the top 10 types out of all the vehicles out there that have been ticketed during the sample time.

Cops don't have quotas, but based on a number of criterion - accident rates in certain areas on the plus side, and grant funding for select enforcement on the negative...amongst many others - they are definitely not discouraged from writing tickets. They also don't necessarily look for flashy cars - those tend to stick out on their own.

My only beef with the report is with some of the editorial comments....a little fact checking couldn't hurt. The H2, for example...last time I checked it's still based on a 2500 Suburban, not a Tahoe.
