And how likely would you have been to hang around for 2,600 posts if on your first one someone here told you your taste in cars sucked? And there's no need to be gentle with people? Generally speaking, this place is very polite, I think all the people who felt they didn't need to be polite went over to another forum for one reason or another...;) There is a difference between being fake and being polite, BTW.

Frankly I don't care about others' viewpoints on my taste in cars. That's not why I'm here. I give and take useful technical information about detailing and cars where I can, take it or leave it.

There IS no need to be gentile with people from the standpoint that if what they're doing is wrong, I'm going to tell them it's wrong. That's not saying I'm going to be derogatory about it, just like I really wasn't and haven't been in this case.

If that's why you're here, why did you rip the guy a new one about his taste in cars?

So his taste in cars is wrong if it's different than yours?

Whatever, dude.

However, if you show your car at anything other than a Concours show, the more mods you have, the more likely you are to win. I, unfortunatley, found this out this year. Taste has nothing to do with winning, nor does quality or cleanliness of work ..

With all due respect that sounds like sour grapes to me man. I've been in more shows, both big and small, than you can count and the quantity of bling and mods has never effected the outcome. I've gone up against cars that had everythhing chrome plated except the sheet metal, 12 TVs, neon, God knows what else and I've always beat them easily. Granted all the major shows here always separate stock from modified so that if you are stock you only go up against stock cars while the modifieds compete separately. But whether stock or modified, it's always about detailing and the little detials.

And back to the original post... Jeez guys, leave the poor guy alone. I see nothing wrong with any of those cars, it's what the owners want and like so who the hell are any of us to be so critical? I can't understand the logic of huge spoilers on front wheel drive 4-bangers but if that's what the guy wants I'm surely not going to stop him! I'm sure that same person would not understand some of the work I've done either.

Quit trying to overinterpret what you're reading. Go back, look at the posts wherein I was specifically directing my comment to him. Did I "rip the guy a new one" there? Not at all. Come back and try again after re-evaluating the scenario. Maybe if you had a valid argument I'd take you seriously here.

If I think its a waste of an otherwise perfectly good automobile, then yes.

So basically what you're asking for, is that we not express our opinions unless they are "holy crap totally friggin sweet dude thats awesome love the cars drool drool drool" -- simply because he's (a) doing what he wants, (b) is a noob, and (c) is from a different country/area? Well as far as I am concerned the internet is a free speech zone regardless WHERE in the world you are. It's my right to express my opinion, even if it's being expressed to a middle-eastern dwelling noob with money to burn.

That may sound kind of harsh, but that's just too bad. If you're mad, get glad again. Quite obviously nobody is going to stop him from doing what he wants (or his friends, or whoever) but that doesn't mean someone shouldn't be able to point out that it isn't universally found tasteful.

SLD,

Time to calm down a bit, there . . . while the 'net may be a "free speech zone", Autopia ISN'T. This isn't Usenet.

So, everyone, please be nice to the newbies (you were one once, too!), and a use a little tact when expressing negative opinions.

With that said, I think this thread has spun way off topic, so out comes the :lock:
