No offense, but I'm not impressed. While the quality of workmanship appears to be top notch, they're just a bit "over the top" for my taste -- almost like what you'd see someone doing just to flaunt their money or "because they can," there are things customized that don't really need to be/shouldn't be. :nixweiss

I condemn you for the work done on these vehicles (whomever they belong to). It seems like they have a lot of money/time into them.

I agree with the "over the top" comment.

However, if you show your car at anything other than a Concours show, the more mods you have, the more likely you are to win. I, unfortunatley, found this out this year. Taste has nothing to do with winning, nor does quality or cleanliness of work :(.

Jeez, give the guy a break. I think it's pretty cool that the love of cars, customizing (whatever your taste), detailing, etc... can cut through ethnic and national origins. There's a lot of craziness between us and that part of the region and to have him come in from Saudi Arabia and share in our love of cars is nice to see.

How much is a gallon of gas currently in Saudi Arabia?!

Wow.... that's almost surprising to hear from you, Sean. To me, your Integra has a good number of mods; but they are clean/tasteful, and I know you wouldn't settle for anything less than the highest quality of workmanship. I guess I would think your car would be popular at the shows.

Of course, now you're going to tell me you didn't win for best paintwork, either.... simply because you don't have hideous flames or airbrushed graphics all over your car.... :hairpull

Granted.... but it seems like the folks who DO share their "love of cars" and are from that region don't do it for the "love of cars," they do it to flaunt money, and/or make the pesants jealous. You have to understand that these folks are trying to emulate American culture, and the only exposure they get to that is by watching movies like The Fast and The Furious. They see that Americans "like over-the-top cars," so that's what they build.

Perhaps a more real perspective of what looks good would do some good here. I've even talked to some folks here in the U.S. who do these types of ridiculous mods to their vehicles, and openly admit "I think it looks fugly, but it's what is popular right now and will get me girls/friends."

The motives are wrong, though the intent may be there.

I'm guessing you mean you "commend" him, and not "condemn" him? :doh

Though those do seem to be a lot of expensive mods for nothing. Why is it cool to have every door and hatch open upside down ?

My apologies, I didn't realize your were so versed in Middle Eastern sociological studies regarding their vehicle tastes to make such an educated, blanket statement! But thanks for clarifying and making me "understand."

I would say most people in the US or any country for that matter who have money, flaunt in the form of cars or anything else. How many who drive Porsche's, Ferraris, Bentleys, top of the line Mercedes / BMW's, etc... do so for the "love of cars" and a true appreciation for the craftsmanship and performance capabilities? A quick look at MTV Cribs (or any affluent suburb) proves my point.

I spoke with a guy who fought in Iraq and he told me about their love for cars and told about how they would drag race, do doughnuts and all sorts of street maneuvers like many American kids do. In fact, they loved when he tried to do a doughnut in his Humvee! I remember doing those same things as a teenager.

I was only looking to be inclusive of a newbie from a unique foreign country that we don't see here whose English may be limited. I wouldn't want to scare him off. I think it would be cool to hear more about what he has to say about the car scene there as well as detailing habits.

I wasn't saying he should be scared off.... that's not it at all. And I welcome his input on detailing habits; but as far as discussing the merit of his mods, I'm sorry but I just can't say that I'm interested in hearing why every possible piece to be made moveable, needs to be moveable.... or why overly flashy wheels that don't do anything for the look of the vehicle they're on are a necessity. Like I said, it's not in my taste.

If it's such a bad thing to find something distasteful, and express that feeling, then I'll gladly hang up my hat and check out of here. Heaven forbid that someone say they don't like something -- someone might get hurt. You can't please everyone ALL of the time, that's all there is to it. :nervous:

I think giving your honest opinion is fair and reasonable; if some people think for some reason you need to use special language and sensitivity when dealing with folks from other cultures, then it's their prerogative to do so if they find it necessary.

When you say $0.24 for 1 liter, does that mean US Dollars?

If so, that translates to just about $1.00 US Dollar per gallon of gas. Where I'm at (1 hour from Chicago), gas is currently $2.57 per gallon for regular. And was recently $2.99 but has dropped the past 2 weeks.

Welcome to the site!!!

All I was saying is that for a newbie to the site, let's cut him some slack and welcome him instead of all his responses be of a negative nature. I don't like the mods either. I'm sure Scottwax doesn't like his mods, but he had a nice way of greeting him to the forum in his response.

I'll be first to tell someone how I feel, I guess I just use a little more discretion when it comes to timing. It may be hard because of a language barrier for him to explain himself regarding why people modify their cars like that. If he was a regular and asked for people's opinions about the wheels or door modifications, then I'd have zero problems with people posting a dislike for it.

I busted on White95Max because he wanted to get a spoiler on his Protege. I have gotten to know him over the months and felt comfortable jabbing with him in good fun with some saracsm. If he were new to the board, I wouldn't have done that. That's what I mean about timing of responses and cutting some slack.

The last thing I am is some lovey-dovey weeny who wants everyone to engage in one giant group hug! In fact, I think Sean's car is tacky (you call it "tasteful mods") particularly those god awful red wheels!

Just goes to show you that kids are kids, no matter where they are, what color they are, and what religion. If only everyone would realize that everyone is more alike than different, and that there is room for everyone (at least for now), the world would be a lot friendlier place.

That's BS. Just like all the people who say "I'm new be gentile" -- its because they're friggin wimps who take the internet too personally. There's no need to be gentle with people, just tell it like it is. N00bs don't get special treatment just because they are below a certain post count... if the truth hurts, they can go get a band-aid. I refuse to be fake with someone just because of their post count, location, or whatever.

And how likely would you have been to hang around for 2,600 posts if on your first one someone here told you your taste in cars sucked? And there's no need to be gentle with people? Generally speaking, this place is very polite, I think all the people who felt they didn't need to be polite went over to another forum for one reason or another...;) There is a difference between being fake and being polite, BTW.
