this should be waiting for me when I get home today.
I plan to coat the trim by my wipers, my side skirts, and front/rear plastic on bottom of fender/bumper on my Challenger

any good tips or tricks for application or is it pretty simple and just follow the instructions?
anyone stray away from the provided applicator/cloths with good success?

obviously I'm going to do an APC wash there first.

I would do an IPA or Eraser wipe down after using an APC (Prep work very important). Use the foam block and suede applicator to apply very thinly. Use another suede applicator or a mf towel wrapped around your finger to gently knock down the high spots. Do not use a foam brush as it will lay to thickly and it will be difficult to knock down. Don't forget to do your headlights with Dlux.

would a cheapo Sams club MF towel (probably around 200 gsm or so) around the finger work? or do I need a more plush one like a gold cobra or better?

also I didn't even think to use it on the headlights..good heads up...I guess I can add headlight coating to my hl resto option now...bottle just paid for itself!

honestly, im kind of more excited to see what the free gift is! haha

I love the mystery and still loving the calendar Ray sent last time (and snow soap will be used ASAP on my truck- I have another detailing research project coming up this wed if I am free)

Directions for Plastic:

  • Make sure the surface is cool and dry. (Do not apply to hot surfaces or in direct sun.)
  • Scrub surface with an all purpose cleaner and microfiber towel
  • Rinse while agitating with microfiber towel to remove all residue from APC
  • Dry or allow to dry completely.
  • Wipe surface with Carpro Eraser.
  • Wet the applicator with 5-6 drops of DLUX and spread evenly across the surface.
  • On textured plastic simply apply even and walk away
  • On smooth plastic apply less thick and wipe to ensure even finish
Directions for Non-Porous (Paint and Metal):


  • Polish surface as needed
  • Wipedown with CarPro Eraser
  • On rims (metal, chrome, clear coat, etc) let cure 1 minute at 85 degrees F up to 10 minutes at 50 degrees F and use a suede MF to wipe it off gently, in a circle motion until no marks are left

Precautions:

  • Allow to cure 1-3 hours without water being introduced to surface. If wet during first 24 hours wipe off water before it dries on surface as a precaution.
  • After 3 days you are free to wash with all your regular car washes.
  • Avoid contact with skin and eyes
  • Wear gloves
  • Never allow highly alkaline (ph11+) chemicals to sit or dwell on the surface for extended periods. This may affect the coating.
  • Do not use for other purposes
  • Keep out of reach of children
  • Keep away from heat
  • Do not ingest

I have followed these instructions and had great results

no I had one thing or another come up and I have not gotten around to using this on the trim

I ended up putting another coat of Sonus Trim and Motor Kote on those pieces...I dont know if I will get around to coating those pieces for another few months at least


quite frankly it seemed like a lot of work when Sonus Trim works great and I also think Bold n Bright works well enough considering how often I enjoy applying things anways

Thats exactly the boat Ive been in. My CarPro Dlux has been sitting on the shelf since last spring (hope it doesnt go bad). Either its raining the following day, its too cold, or I just applied another dressing I dont feel like APCing off, something always comes up. In the end, the oil based dressing I use takes me 2-3 minutes to apply to all the trim and lasts 2-3 weeks looking perfect (I just apply more each wash).

For the wheels off detail, I reached for Dlux but put it back down on the shelf when I saw it was only 50F outside and the sun was starting to set...

When I get around to doing mine, Ill do a write-up. Im going to pull off the bumper, grills, valve covers, etc. and apply it everywhere I can (

Hopefully, I like it more than CarPros PERL. (FYI: I really didnt appercate how PERL turned all my black trim white and still does where I didnt APC it off, luckily the oil based dressing covers it right up).

Any before and after pictures? Did it darken the plastics? Glossy or matte? Howd you prep? Did you apply over top another product? ...I heard people are using Dlux over top solution finish (SF restores and Dlux protects)

...so many questions :)

It darkened them and made them a bit glossy. I prepped with an APc and then wiped down with CarPro Eraser and then wiped on the DLUX. I also used it on the taillights headlights, plastic chrome grill, and aluminum wheels. It has the right amount of gloss for me and its fun to watch water bead on the plastics.

I think the Eraser makes a difference because I used DLUX on the cowl of the Kia Sorento I had but didnt use Eraser and it did not last very long. The other plastics I used Eraser on and they were still beading almost a year later when I traded it for the Silverado.

The investment of time properly prepping and installing DLUX is well worth it.

I have seen 12 months and 24,000 miles with it on all the trim on a leased Chevy Equinox. Still looks great and frees up time to detail other areas of the vehicle.

Yes, Dlux is awesome... IF, you prep right. Ive seen it fail early but Ive personally had it on my ride for over 30 months and its just starting to degrade.

Ive come to the conclusion that if its white and water-based this will the result. Since switching to clear dressings I havent had any issues.

I think the cause of my issue was that I used PERL undiluted/neat (I liked how it looked), it rained heavily the days following my applications (mixed precipitation - freezing rain) and it was cold (28f-36f). I think the product dried and then the rain washed away everything but the protection leaving behind that milky white color of the product. I assume the water soluble parts/ingredients of PERL washed away with the rain and all that was left was concentrated white PERL on the trim.

I tested it out on different plastics and tires and it always turns white after 2-3 weeks regardless if its rubber, plastic, rubber foam, car, etc. Inside its a very different case, I used it to treat the plastic on my subwoofer and it never turned white (I concluded because the subwoofer doesnt get wet). I think PERL is better suited for the southern states where rain isnt a tri-weekly occurrence and the primary concern is the UV rays from the sun.
