I have been getting countless questions about my regimen, so I figured I'd just write up an article and post it. I'd like to thank my girlfriend turning my on to the OXY POWER! a little over a year ago. After playing with different dilutions, I've found a great method. Enjoy the read!

Hey Everyone,

As a professional detailer I have tried many different methods to getting a carpet clean. Currently I use a method that lifts deep down stains and odors out quite well.

What you will need

-Hi-power wet/dry ShopVac
-Oxy Clean (the Granular)
-2 Gallon Bucket
-Medium Hardness Bristled Nylon Brush w/handle
-A good spot remover (I used Meguiar's All Purpose Cleaner diluted 10:1)

What to do

-Vacuum out the upholstery or carpet
-Mix in the 2 gallon bucket: 2 scoops of Oxy Clean and the rest with warm/hot water
-Stir it up with the brush and let it sit for 5 mins for the product to saturate into the water
-While it is saturating, spray your spot remover onto the surface generously, concentrating the spray on the heavier soil spots
-Proceed to then scrub the solution into the carpet. What I do is hold the handled brush and scoop some water with my hand onto the surface. Work in small squares (1'x1') when agitating and scrub front to back, left and right, repeating over each swipe. You will see the solution saturate into the carpet. Just scrub the solution in and move to your next area.
-When the entire area is saturated, begin where you begun scrubbing the first section. Proceed to extract the water solution out of the carpets/upholstery. I usually take the filter out of the ShopVac (more suction) for this and move slowly over the surface to insure complete extraction of the solution.
-When done, the areas will be damp. Leave the doors open with the dome light switched "OFF" and leave the mats in the sun. It should be dry in an hour or two.
-Let it all dry and Voila!

Notes

-Get some crevice tools for the Shopvac. It will help with vacuuming and extracting.
-For tight areas, agitate with your hands or a terry towel.
-For a spot remover, you should be just fine with something that is safe for clothing (IE: Shout Spray)
-Repeat if necessary. For deep stains, just apply the solution and let it sit for about 20 mins, then extract out.

Here are some pictures of the work I have achieved with the exact steps/products listed above:

Thanks Sean, very nice writeup. I've been waiting for something like this from you :bigups

That Nissan transformation still has me thinking that you managed to get 2 different vehicles and tricked us with those pictures :)

Carpet cleaning always a trial for me. I sure this will help me and a lot others do a better job :bow

Thanks for the write up, I will have to try this along with the woolite method.

What did you on the vinyl?

Eric

I must try that on a spot in my media room where one of my friends spiled orange slice and vodka on the floor. theres a nice orange spot there. oxi clean did not get it out but then again i never used the method you mentioned. i will try it tommrow ^^

usdm: Craftsman ShopVac. It's the thin wall vac model with the long hose. Fits great in the trunk...oh, 5hp.

zesty: Takes me about an hour give or take for the mats and carpets. That includes the initial cleanout and vacuum.

Good Luck.

Charles: The pics work fine for me...?

Yeah today they are working for me too. Must have been some type of temporary problem...

Now that I can see the pics let me just say they look DAMN GOOD! Very impressive transformation from filthy to spotless. How long did that all take? Must have been many hours.

Do you find Oxy works better than APC+ 10:1?

I JUST use the APC solution and it seem to work good, I guess what I'm asking is would the Oxy do any better of a job?

thanks eric.
that's a great write up.
where can I purchase the shopvac and Meguiar's All Purpose Cleaner diluted 10:1 ?

thanks once again. Great write up.

Raja

Charles: About an hour, give or take. That includes cleaning out, then vacuuming, then pretreating and scrubbing of carpets and mats, then extracting.

Steve: I have meant to try that. I will have to see...

Raja: I got the ShopVac from Sears. Meguiar's APC is available from www.meguiars.com

Sean,
Those before and after shots of the Maxima carpet are incredible. I clean commercial carpet for a living, so I know what it takes to get carpet really clean. Its amazing that you got the stuff that clean and you don't use a hot steam extraction method, but I bet you dumped some nasty water out of the shop vac. I showed the pictures to my boss and he asked when you could start cleaning restaurant carpets for us!

Matt

95YJWRANGLER: The thing was a wreck and I spent a tad extra time on it as I knew the pictures would pay me off. With the mixture I have now, I haven't seen the need for a hot steam extractor (nor do I have the room :) ). The water looked like watery motor oil :D. Thank you and your boss for the kind words.

rycen: Yup, I got this tip from a member over at Autopia. It is definatley an improvement in suction.

Sean, nice write up, i'm going to be giving your regimen a go next time I get a bad interior. I just have 1 question. When you say Oxy Clean, you are referring to the "As Seen on TV" product??? I've seen the tub of it at Kmart, just wanted to make sure it was the same product you were using???

Thanks again for the writeup, I will definately be using.
