carpet stripes

Yeah, Grouse is the man for carpets. Those are plastic bristles in the rake, Supe? Did you go for your surgery yet?

Yeah, the bristles are plastic, with just the right amount of flex to em. If they were stiffer, I'd be worried about damaging the carpet fiber.

Surgery was put off til I finish a course of steroids. It's tentatively been re-scheduled for next Wednesday, if the surgeon likes what he sees on Tuesday.

I remember my mom raking the carpet in the house back when we covered our hardwood with shag. Think we also used in on the floor, walls and ceiling of the van conversion, yeah, Baby!

This little dealy...hand carpet rake, will *really* bring car carpets and carpeted mats back to factory new.

I've been studying up a lot lately on the whole carpet cleaning thing, as I've had to do quite a bit of carpet cleaning in houses, and I'm also going to add interiors to my detailing services once I feel like I'm educated/qualified enough to do interiors to Autopian standards.

Anyway, this hand carpet rake is a great tool. Use it after extracting to "reset" the carpet pile; it'll make the carpet look brand new.

A bit OT, but... my carpet process now:

1. Vacuum thoroughly

2. Pre-spray with Prochem Ultrapac Trafficlean, or for really nasty stuff, Prochem Traffic Lane Cleaner. Make sure the carpet is *thoroughly* sprayed, so it won't dry up while it's dwelling.

3. Agitate it with the hand carpet rake

4. let it dwell for ten minutes

5. Extract the carpets using Prochem Liquid Slurry. Repeat until water comes up clean.

6. Re-extract it using Prochem All Fiber Rinse, then go over them using multiple dry passes with your extractor or wet vac.

7. Brush the carpet thoroughly with the carpet rake, then dry.

I've used this method on house carpet and car carpets. It works great. Huge thanks to Grouse.

The kind of cleaning you get using this method and chemicals is nothing short of amazing.

well, the only 'high end' vehicles i work on are mercedes and beemers. Most of my customers are in yukons and lexus's and f150's, etc.. Most of them have never had a professional detail, and if they are paying $300 for it, I think they EXPECT to see something different. Which leads to the stripes.. Most of my new customers REQUEST the stripes. they see my pictures in my ads and they say "that is what i want". Most want the stripes and they want the wheels taken off to do a THOROUGH cleaning. Maybe when i get to washing rolls royces and murcielago's things will be diferent, but living in Jackson, MS, I wouldnt count on it. ha.

Fweew. Been away for a while...since Black Friday (last friday).....got stuck on Paintball forum for a while.

Anyway, back to the topic, I only stripe for customers I know like it. For the rest, I offer it as an option when I take delivery.

Supe.....like that rake. Just ordered one.

Hey Supe,

Have you ever tried attaching a carpet brush to your DA? Makes cleaning carpets much faster and easier. My method with mats or carpet is:

1. Vacuum thoroughly to remove loose debris.

2. Spray cleaner on carpet but not to the point of soaking the carpet. You can use APC or carpet cleaner, your choice.

3. Turn DA with carpet brush on high and have at the mat or carpet.

4. Vacuum the mat or carpet again to remove as much of the dirty carpet solution as possible.

- Some people stop here. I like to rinse the cleaner our of the carpet. -

5. Use Little Green Machine with only clean water in it and go over carpet again till solution is removed.

6. Have Stanley Blowerfan Stanley BlowerFanâ„¢ - 655702 at The Home Depot (if just cleaned carpet) positioned on seat pointing down on carpet blowing on high. Blow for atleast an hour (sometimes I let blow over night just to make sure I get no mold).

Good luck, Supe!!!

Thanks, Casey. :) I'm probably gonna be driving you guys crazy afterwards, though. The recovery time is 12 weeks, so I'll have nothing to do but hang out on Autopia and drive you guys nuts!

I've been wanting to get the carpet brush attachments for my PC for a long time. Ever since I read about Scottwax using them. It's still on my "buy this" list. Your process looks very good, man.

Wow, what a great little blower that is! Online only, I guess.

My local WM's and Sam's Club have them on the shelf. You might also check for the air movers at your local carpet/janitorial supply store, if you have one.

Correct. I just bought mine off the shelf at Walmart. It is a very nice blower. You can position it up or down at any angle you want. Some painters and dry wall people use these to spead up the drying of paint/dry wall mud.

I used to "stripe" the carpets... but I don't anymore. I just brush up the nap in the same direction.

I often use the A/C to blow the carpet even and sometimes use a Swissvax leather brush. Recently, I've been considering making polka dots in the carpets.:2thumbs:
