That's exactly how I use mine. I don't bother with the Bisell solution or anything, just straight warm water. Hit the carpets with folex, scub, use LGM to soak/extract. It's not the best thing ever but it does a really good job for $99 CAD (less USD).

That Bissel thing is a POS. It will wear out in an hour or two of use. For a small portable extractor, use the Hoover equivalent. It performs better and doesn't wear out within a few months of purchase. The Hoover has higher static water lift too so your work dries faster.

I don't use their cleaning solutions. I'll generally fly with FOLEX and do my spot removal. I'll keep the shop vac nearby to get things good and dry when needed.
I would not attempt to use it for cleaning large areas - - the head/nozzle is simply too small, IMO.

I've had my LGM for awhile now, no idea how many hours it has on it, I'd guess 20-25 of straight running, no issues yet.
And yes, what I use it for is 99% soak/extract mats and interior carpets/upholstery. I also have a shop vac that I ocassionally use that works about as well, but it's larger and I have to take the filter out, so I use it mostly for dry vac.

I purchased a GORE-TEX HEPA filter for my shop vac...it can be run either wet or dry. It was $25 which I thought was pricey at the time of purchase but it's turned out to be a sound investment.

I used the little green machine for a full time detailing operation and it worked fine. The only problem I ever had was that it was a pain to get all the nastiness out of the dirty water container. As long as you pre treat the carpet wth a stain remover it should be sufficient enough.
I actually just finished using mine in my living room. I've had it about a month and so far I have no regrets. Go down to Walmart and get the unheated version. No need for the extra money on the heated, just use hot water. Pre-treat with folex (~$15/gal at Home Depot), scrub, then extract with hot water and LGCM. Stand back and look in horror at the brown/black water that shoots into the recovery tank.
It's not as good as a full blown extractor, but for the price, you can't beat it. I paid around $70 for mine, but you can catch them on sale or cheaper on ebay.
As a bonus you get those cool lines in your floormats.
