Carbon Black M3 (2002)

This was today's detail and is a perfect example of why to never take a car to a "hand car wash", which is the ony place this car had ever been cleaned.

Anyway, I knew I wasn't going to be able to get all the swirling out in just one day with a PC (I'm definitely ordering a rotary after trying this with the PC!) so did the best I could and ended up with about 95% of them removed.

I thought I'd give #83 a go again as I have been favouring SSR2.5 recently but after doing the hood soon reverted to the SSR - #83 (by PC at least) takes forever to work through, and even then I dont find the results anywhere near as good as SSR2.5 - I could get better results with one pass of 2.5 than I could with three of #83.

So in the end, I went:

SSR2.5/Sonus DAS Orange

Yellow Moose Wax/Sonus DAS Blue

#16 by hand

I couldn't believe that I could have gone straight from 2.5/Orange to a LSP but I could have done - I really do like the SSR range now!

Results were really good, although the photos aren't great as the light was going and my photographic inspiration had left me. This detail took me 10 hours as the paint really was in a bit of a state. Roll on the Makita which will hopefully speed things up a bit!

I love those cars. Awesome job on the detail....Very cool color. Did the owner let you take it for a quick spin?

Very nice! It's a little unclear in your post, but did you follow up w/ SSR 1 or just go straight from 2.5 to MW. You said you could have

Yeah we used to do hand washes at the dealership when I worked there...

1. Wash vehicle with that dirty decade-old mitt that's sitting in that bucket of brown water.

2. Rinse with extremely hard water.

3. Wipe with an old water blade.

4. Dry with a nasty chamois.

Those were the days...

Your car looks a ton better now! Keep away from other people/establishments wanting to wash your car!

that is one of the things that i love about SSR 2.5, if you work it properly, it leaves the paint ready for the LSP.

very nice job! :xyxthumbs

No he didn’t, but without being big headed I’ve owned an M3 Cab, Coupe and CSL (All E46) so know the cars very well anyway!

I went straight from SSR2.5 to Yellow Moose (to add a bit more depth) and then topped with #16.

Hi Ben- nice detail. You've owned a few M3's then eh!

Anyway - what did you use on other parts of the car - I'm curious on what you used for the wheels & tyres?

Also - was this a 'paid' detail? or mates rates? and if it was paid - what did you charge for a 10hr detailling session? (if you don't mind me asking - and feel free to tell me if you do mind!)

Thanks

Graham

Graham,

Total list of products is as follows:

SSR2.5

Yellow Moose

#16

CMW on windows and window trim (AG Fast Glass on the windscreen)

Sonax R2000 and Hyperturismo's Wheel Wax on the rims

Meg's Endurance Hi-Gloss on the tyres

AG Engine and Machine Cleaner in the arches

#0000 steel wool/AG Intensive Tar Remover and Meg's NXT All Metal Polysh on the exhaust tips

I charged £200 for this, but that was agreed before I saw the car. Had I had a close inspection of the car before I booked him in I would have split the detail over two days and charged him more - this car needed more than 10 hours on it (especially with only a PC available) but that wasn't going to happen, hence the long day!

Ben awesome job...I konw first hand how much of a pain BMW clear is to correct with a PC from a neglected state and you did a tramendous job there. Same combo i use on all of the M3's that I work on but it's still a ***** to make them perfect with a PC.

Keep up the great work and showing off such beautiful cars.

Thanks for the comments guys. I really wish I'd had longer to work on the car so I could get it 100%, but it just wasn't going to happen:(

Oh well, will just have to concentrate on the black E60 M5 I'm doing on Sunday:buffing:
