Car Wash That Is Safe For New Paint?

I just got my hood repainted and was wondering what car wash I should use when washing it. I am pretty sure I should'nt use QEW, due to the wax it leaves behind. I was thinking about either nxt or p21s because they are somewhat mild ( wont strip the 3m handglaze) and do not leave behind wax. What do you guys think?

That's good, also Meg's CG is good. Just about any car wash shampoo from a reputable mfgr. should be good.
 
I'd only use Meguiar's #00 as it is body shop safe and made for fresh paint.



I would not use NXT. Don't know too much about P21s.



Maybe you'll be able to find it locally by you at a body shop place or NAPA.
 
I called the body shop and they said that gold class/nxt would be ok. Should I believe them?



The repainted part has been baked and has cured for about 1 1/2 weeks now ( been sitting in my garage the whole time though).



What do you guys think?

I agree with Spilchy on the #00 rec. Add 1 tbsp to 2 gallons of water and you'll be in good shape.



#00 is a fine product that doesn't get the recognition is deserves.
 
GC and NXT are probably fine but #00 is a sure thing, easily available and only comes in 16oz. bottles anyway so it's not like you'll be stuck with a bunch you won't need. Why bother messing around?

Or you could use Griot's ;)



Either Meg's #00 or their #62 would be fine and I truly can't imagine the P21s causing any trouble either.



Just be careful about the technique because the paint might still be a little soft.



But don't expect the IHG to survive the washing. Even my beloved #5 really oughta be refreshed after a wash and it holds up better than IHG. While the paint is curing, just reapply the glaze every time you wash.
 
well the prob is I dunno of any place in the area that has the professional Meg products. My only other option is to order from Megs, but I need to wash the car tonight...



I might be able to get some griot car wash from a friend, how much of the griot car wash should I use per gallon of water?

yeah, we can get #00 at Pepboyz, Autozone and any decent auto body shop supply store. It's not hard to find OTC.

If you go with the Griot's instead of the P21s just mix it up about one oz. per gallon or so. Won't hurt if you mix it stronger though. I just mix it by eye, can't tell you what strength I really use.
 
I can't believe this thread is going on 2 pages:



No car wash soap (even if it has a little wax in it) is going to hurt paint that has already been baked .
 
Re-spray coatings, their oven temperatures and oven dwell times are not the same as factory finishes. The cure is certainly accelerated but depending on the specific finish/cycle it may only be equivalent to shortening the time to buff from overnight to an hour. There still may be a need to wait for days or weeks for full curing.



You would need to read the coating manufacturer's data sheets and compare their recommendations to the actual baking cycle (temperature and dwell time) used by the paint shop to be sure.



The wash is probably not much of an issue but unless your painter is ready to pass along the info it's easiest just to use #00 and hold off waxing for a few weeks.
