Car Wash Concentrate Prices

I was looking at the new Poorboy's Super Slick and Suds for $15 a bottle, and thought "wow, that's expensive!" comparing it in my mind to the Meguiar's washes that I and a lot of people use...then got to thinking about the Meg's #00 Wash and looking at some of the other exotic brands...arghh! Now I have to do a spreadsheet....

Your taking this waaaay to seriously. Just find something you like and stick with it. You can get Megs Gold class for $10/gallon at target and it's some good stuff.

I was looking at Meg's Hyperwash, has a 400:1 dilusion ratio, that is insane. I think it came out to like 5 cents per gallon of mixed solution.

Actually, it comes out to 6 cents per gallon, just like the Deep Crystal. Not sure on the dilution rates of some of the washes cuz no one answered me above (thanks eggroll, but I had the Pb's info), but I put all the Meg's washes in plus a few others; the low was 6 cents per gallon of solution, the highest 44 cents.

Im curious to see where 1Z Perls fits into the equation. It really wouldnt matter to me because it simply blows away all the other car washes I have used.

It was 21 cents per gallon of solution. The most expensive (in my spreadsheet) was the Meg's #00 at 44 cents, if I'm correctly remembering the 1 0z/gal ratio...been a long time since I used it.

Curiously, most of the car wash advertising doesn't mention the dilution ratio, so I'm having trouble entering as many as I would like.

Yeah, just pick something and stick with it.

Sorry if my curiosity offends.

But I used to use this: http://www.griotsgarage.com/catalog.jsp?L1=L1_1000&L2=L2_1001&SKU=11102

So Poorboy's is not a bad price compaired to that. I like them both.

The Pb's SSS is in the price range (per gal. of solution) of the 1Z Perls, Sonus Gloss, and Meguiar's Soft Gel. THAT's why I did the analysis; the sticker shock from the $15/bottle price turned out to be matched and even exceeded by other washes on a cost/wash basis (most of which come in a smaller bottle).

:up

I use NXT wash. I love it. Sudsy and very slick. Yu really dont need alot either. I put very little (1-2 oz) in the bottom of a 5 gallon HD bucket and it lasts the whole wash. Its like $5 for 64oz at Wally world.

Thanks, guys, and no offense, but we're getting a little off-topic, I started this thread to ask if anyone else thought Pb's wash was expensive, which caused me to compare it to some other washes on a cost-per-use basis (based on mfr's recommended dilution ratio), where I found it wasn't that bad.

If someone wants to chime in with the dilutions of the Meg's pro stuff (I've assumed 1 oz/gallon) and the Griot's and anything else, I'll punch them into my spreadsheet and give the results.

PS This data is purely objective cost data for info only, and shouldn't result in a wash war, I hope. :nixweiss

I, too, was a bit surprised to see the price of SSS. I've heard good things about it but was really hoping for a somewhat lower price.

Still haven't had a chance to try it.

But I'm beginning to miss the Z7. Still have a bit sitting on my shelf, I guess I could provide you with the dillution ratio so that you could add it to the list.

The website says to use a capful per gallon of water, from the picture I'd guess that to be a half an ounce. At that ratio, the Z-7 is in the same range as the Pb's SSS and the others I mentioned. Anybody know the Griot's dilution?

A suggestion for the spreadsheet. Try to create a third column that creates an order for cleansing ability. Then do the analysis by cleaning ranges. Say "1" for best cleaners, "2" for above average, "3" for just average, etc. Then for each of 1, 2, 3 look at cost per wash.

Just an idea.

As I stated previously, I am only doing this as an objective cost-per-wash comparison. If I tread into subjective "cleaning ability" this will just wind up a wash war. Again, I was just taken aback at the price per bottle for the Pb's SSS, and after doing the cost-per-wash comparison, it is comparable to several other washes, and is neither the least nor the most expensive.
