Ok guys I had a friend call me late last night with a problem! She was driving down the road and Hit a Skunk. The bad part is The Skunk Sprayed the Exterior of the Truck and if that wasn't bad enough She got sparyed along with the interior!

So the question is Where do we start?

Here is what Im thinking!

I know its not good for the paint ... but at this point its all I can think of!

Pressure Washer With Orange Clean to eliminate the oder on the paint as well as kill the acids in the Skunk Spray.

The real problem is the interior! Where do I even begin! :hurl

sell the truck:lol

Steve .... thats What I first told her ... But we have to get the Stench out long enough that we can sell the car (or most likely trade it in)

I was thinking of just spraying a whole lot of the PB Leather scent ... but something tells me even that isn't strong enough!

When I tell you the car stinks! you could physicly have no idea how bad it is!

LOL ...Something tells me that wouldn't be too good on the interior! I was thinking about that on the exterior but I was afraid the Tomato Juice May be Too acidic and harm the paint worse than it already is/could be!

The interior I have no Idea where to even begin ..I think im going to borrow a friends Extractor! but what kind of chemicals should I be useing here and is there something that I can use to neutralize the scent besides haning 1000 car scents from the mirror?

It an Oil that cause it so something that removes oils would be good... HOT HOT HOT water.. I would BOIL the water and then put it in the extrator and then use it. mix up some folex or APC and maybe even use the protein stain remover .. them extract extract extract

Patrick,

Thank you for the usefull information! I didn't realize that the spray of a skunk was an OIL I thought it was an acid! My bigger concern was the interior So I told her to take baking soda and sprinkle it on the interior figuring that would help absorb everyting.

She is stopping by with the truck this afternoon and Im going to hopefully take care of it!

Steve,

Good point... If I use my friends it will probably forever smell like a skunk!

I told my friend to start car shopping today! The truck that got sprayed is an early 90s Jeep Cherokee! The truck has over 100k on it so its really not worth ALL that much!

But its got to be cleaned just to be able to sell it!

I've had dogs sprayed by skunks 3-4 times. One of those times, I put the smelly dog into the garage for a few minutes to contain her until I could get a bath set up for her. Did I mention that I left her in the garage with my 2 WEEK OLD CAR!! Well, the car smelled like skunk for weeks even without encountering a direct hit. The only remedy that worked at all is detailed below. I tried the usual tomato juice, white vinegar, and pre-mixed skunk deodorizer, but none worked as well as this.

*****
Rinse immediately with water. Take 1/4 cup of Baking Soda, 1 tablespoon of Liquid Soap (hand soap or dish soap), and mixed with a quart of fresh Hydrogen Peroxide. Thoroughly saturate and soak/rub for least 5 minutes. Rinse thoroughly. Repeat. Repeat. Repeat...........

[Disclaimer: Always test new products in an inconspicous spot. I'm not sure how this solution will react with the interior's fabric, but I was able to use it on the exterior and clothing.]

Try 50/50 iso/water mix or straight isopropyl alcohol. Skunk spray is alcohol soluble, my dog got sprayed and we poured some scope over her, she came out smelling minty and skunk-free. The smell never came back. Be sure to clay well after you're done.

Hello
I hit a skunk last summer with my truck. It was only 4 months old..a 2004 Ford Ranger. The stink was bad I was bummed. Did some calling around and was told to use Lestoil and spray it on the underside of the truck.

I got the Lestoil and used a hose end garden sprayer from Ortho. I put the sprayer setting on the highest concentration settings. Sprayed the undercarriage till sprayer was empty.

Next day the ordor was 99% gone , just a hint of the smell. I wanted it all gone. I next called the local Vet as who might know how to rid the odor as dogs will get sprayed..she told me of a product called Miracle (something) forgot the last name. But I got it at petco. I mixed it straight in a 1 gallon pump sprayer and sprayed the undercarriage again..Walla odor gone cpmpletely..It said on the bottle it was an enzyme based and was good for carpet, clothes and any fabric besides dogs.

This setup did fine for me...I also was told the same mix as AWD told you would work.

Hope this helps

Al

PS Lestoil is a very srong solvent based cleaner...I now use it as a pre spotter and my greasy clothes and they come out clean..better than any of the other pre wash products out there.. also cleans oil spots and garage floors.

Whoa, that's one aerobic skunk.:badabum How did the skunk manage to spray the driver and interior, while being run-over :wha

For god sake DON'T use tomato juice.....I have had the same problem that ever body has mentioned...

This was obtained through a Pet supply center.

As for the tomato juice ! ! ! It stains.... everything....
I have tried it all, shampoo's to feminine hygiene douche they do not work.
Some of the most embarrassing moments were Try to explain to the neighbors why you have a PINK Samoyed and smell like a feminine hygiene product.

Good luck

Well guys' heres the story!

Yesterday I went over and cleaned the interior (It wasn't as bad as She was claiming) She Took the majority of the spray. She Hit the skunk as he was running accros the road. The sckunk was running from left to right she hit him (I guess in the center) causing the whole left side of her truck (including her with the open window).

I followed a little bit of everyones advice. I had her rent an extractor On the Interior I used Marj's (awd330) It worked excelent! I Made 4 passes on the interior!

On the exterior I thought about it ... and I thought about it and finnaly I said well the paint is in bad condition as it is ... im going to do a full exterior detail on it anyway and I can't make it much worse! With that all said I set out for the Swirl O Matic! (They wouldnl't let me through because of the smell of the truck!

So I drove over to one of the Power wash bays and washed the exterior 4 times even went as far and spraying the under carrige!

The truck now smells better then when she first got it!

Thanks for all the help everyone I will be shure to post pics after I do the exterior detail!
