Car I just bought died on the way home, what could the problem be?

Just got a call from the mechanic... the problem is the fuel pump, and he wants $670. :-/

Autozone has two different pumps... one is $360, the other is $260... and there are pumps for this car going for about 120-170 shipped on eBay.

Holy crap! That is one expensive pump...or then again...I could be out of touch...I haven't had to buy a fuel pump in about 20 years..

The blazers have fuel pump problems and the price your mechanic quoted you is a fair price assuming he is going to use a new GM fuel pump. IMO if your going to sell the blazer then I would go with the cheapest fuel pump money can buy and pray it last's long enough till you sell it.

The fuel pumps in the blazers are known to go out prematurely.

If the car was at an auction you might FIRST smell the fuel and see if it is stale. Now days the junk in the gas goes south fast! If it was in an auction yard and in storage for long the fuel might be rotten. If it doesn't smell fresh (don't know how else to describe it) you could drain the tank or if nearly empty try diluting the old junk with fresh fuel. Too late now but you could disconnect the fuel line and see if fuel was coming out at pressure
