I have alot of dirt/grease from under the hood on the front of my car. I took it through the car wash but alot of it was still there so I figured Id get a bucket and try to wash it myself. First I used ArmorAll Carwash Concentrate and a microfiber towel and started scrubing but it didnt really come off. Then I tried Cherry Power Carwash and a sponge and that didnt help either. Any suggestions please?

paint cleaner? Where can I find that, have a product name you suggest? I had someone suggest using dawn, what do you think?

Try one of the Citrus type cleaners (Meguires do a good one) and a clean paintbrush wrap the furrel (the metal bit that holds the bristles in place) with duct tape,'brush' the citrus cleaner on, then rinse off with soapy water (use car shampoo)or hose off ,re-wax.

Noticed from your avitar you havent logged where you're from, if you do people can give you better advice on whats avalible localy OTC to you.

Dawn's abilities are vastly over-rated. It's not that special.

The Meguiar's Deep Crystal Step #1 is a good paint cleaner and is commonly available. Or the bug/tar remover or another solvent. You could also look into engine cleaners for use in the engine compartment.

For a white car, I'd look into the ABC decontamination system from AUTOINT but I'd use that on the outside (regular body of the car) not the underhood spots. I'd use the ABC and clay while the "B" part is dwelling. Then polish and wax. You'd be amazed at how nice it'd look.

I had stuff on my '90 Olds that absolutely refused to budge with any run-of-the-mill cleaners, such as dish detergent, citrus cleaner, car wash soap, etc, even with harder scrubbing that I really should have tried doing on the paint. I picked up a clay bar and voila, it erased it right away and left the paint in much nicer shape. I highly recommend you give it a try. Check out thde difference in these pics. The first is after a fresh wash, the second is after a Mequiar's clay bar and Mequiar's NXT liquid wax. This was my first relatively serious attempt at an experior detail and was done by hand. Fair warning, it did take a few hours to get it looking this well over the entire car. And the waxing was only a small portion of the job, it was mostly elbow grease with the clay. This isn't (even for the pros) a 10 minute job.

I picked up a bottle of Meguiars deep crystal paint cleaner and a couple application pads today. I put some on a pad, scrubed a little bit, then went over it with a dry cloth. I kept going a little farther and had eventually done the whole car. I helped alot, some spots are still left, but it got off a lot of things I didnt think it would. Im gonna try the clay bar stuff mentioned here tomorrow or so, it did a great job on velobard's car. Thanks for the help.

There's a great "how-to" article in the Learn section you can find through the link at the top of this page. The article I'm talking about is at http://www.guidetodetailing.com/articles.php?articleId=14

You should be able to find some Mequiar's, Mother's, or Clay Magic clay bar kits at your local auto parts store. It will come with a clay bar and a spray bottle of quick detailer to use as a lube. Above all, don't drop your clay on the ground and try to reuse it, it'll pick up grit that will scratch the paint. You don't need to use the whole bar at once, just a section. I guess I really don't need to go into that here, just read the article.

Just curious, what kind of car is this and how old is it?

Thanks for the link. Reading the article Im pretty sure I wont have any problem using this method, and it seems to work very well. Ill give it a try tomorrow or Saturday and post how it turns out. I've had the car about six months, it's a 89 Porsche 944.

for white I believe its almost a rule to clay. I have 2 white cars and with the same polish routine the absence of clay is dramatic.

Its also cheap and easy, Klasse All in One works wonders too
